Before Us

Friend

I wake up and see the sun shining through the window. Birds are chirping outside and every now and then a car drives by. I immediately run into the kitchen, eagerly expecting to see Jess in front of me. But then I remember. Oh man, I was so stupid! I have to apologize to her, immediately. Before it's too late...

After putting on a more fashionable outfit than yesterday, I drive right away to her house. As I as knocking on the door for the first time her mom openes it.

"Is Jess here?"

She shakes her head. "She's at the bakery."

I thank her and run off to the bakery I believe she went to. There she is. She can't see me yet so I have time to think what to say.

As soon as she sees me, her face turns pale and she turns away from me. At first I was confused, but I can understand her reaction. I slowly walk towards her and see her take a deep breath and then move towards me.
What should I say? It doesn't matter! I'll let my heart speak for me.

"Hi Jess! Let me explain it all to you. I am so so sorry for what I did. I had nightmares even during the day, it was horrible knowing that we had a fight. I can't imagine a life without you being my friend. My best friend. You are a wonderful person who loves and is loved. We have already accompanied each other through many difficult situations and will not leave each other's side now. A stranger opened my eyes. Life goes on. Life has never stood still. I was the one who wanted to stop time. But now I know that the past is past and we must always look forward. Of course I will mourn for a long time. But never alone again. We will stay best friends forever."

Jess has tears in her eyes and hugs me.

"I understand you completely. We can do this. Oh yes, I actually wanted to give you something yesterday, but I forgot in the rush. Here. These are two tickets for a concert tonight. I know it's very short notice, but I won the tickets and it would be a shame not to go."

I don't even look at them. Instead I hug her tight and we walk to her house to eat breakfast together.

I'm so glad that everything worked out. What would I have done without her by my side? Anyway, we're going to the concert tonight and tomorrow everything will be the same as before.
