Leyla clutched her phone tightly, her fingers trembling as she tried to explain the situation to the dispatcher on the other end of the line. The fire outside had been extinguished, but the fear and adrenaline still coursed through her veins. Kenan stood nearby, his face etched with worry and frustration."Look, I'm telling you, it's her! She's been harassing us for weeks," Leyla insisted, her voice shaking with desperation.
"I'm sorry, ma'am," the dispatcher replied calmly. "But without concrete evidence linking her to the incident, there's not much we can do at this point. Please make sure to file a report, and we'll keep an eye on the situation."
Leyla wanted to scream. The bureaucratic indifference felt like a slap in the face. "So you're saying we just have to wait until something worse happens?"
"Ma'am, I understand your frustration, but we need evidence to take any legal action. Please stay safe and alert. We'll do our best to patrol the area."
Leyla ended the call, feeling a surge of hopelessness wash over her. She turned to Kenan, who had been listening to her conversation with a grim expression.
"They're useless," she said bitterly. "They won't do anything because there's no evidence it's Zeynep."
Kenan sighed, running a hand through his hair. "We'll figure something out, Leyla. We just have to stay strong."
"Stay strong?" she echoed, her voice rising. "How are we supposed to stay strong when she's out there doing God knows what? I'm scared, Kenan!"
He reached out to comfort her, but she pulled away, her frustration boiling over. "Maybe... maybe you should just get back with her," she blurted out.
Kenan's eyes widened in shock. "What? No, Leyla, I can't—"
"Maybe if you were with her, this miserable stuff wouldn't be happening!" she continued, her voice breaking. "Maybe then she'd leave us alone, and we could have some peace."
Kenan's face hardened. "You can't be serious, Leyla. You really think going back to her would solve anything?"
"Why not?" she snapped. "At least she wouldn't be trying to ruin our lives!"
"Do you hear yourself right now?" Kenan's voice was low and angry. "You want me to go back to someone who's toxic and abusive, just so we can have a temporary reprieve? That's not a solution, that's surrendering."
Leyla's eyes filled with tears. "I just want this to stop, Kenan. I don't feel safe. I can't sleep. I can't live like this."
Kenan stepped closer, his eyes softening. "I know. And I promise you, we'll get through this. But not by giving in to her. We have to stay together, stay strong."
She shook her head, feeling the weight of the situation pressing down on her. "I don't know if I can do this," she whispered.
Kenan's expression turned pained. "Leyla, I love you. I don't want to lose you to her games."
"Then stop her!" she cried. "Do something!"
Kenan's jaw tightened. "I'm trying, Leyla. But it's not that simple."
They stood in silence, the tension between them thick and suffocating. Finally, Leyla turned away, her heart heavy with fear and frustration. "Maybe we shouldn't be together," she said quietly. "If this is what it leads to."
Kenan looked like he'd been punched in the gut. "You don't mean that."
She didn't respond, too emotionally drained to argue further. She walked to the bedroom, leaving Kenan standing in the living room, his shoulders slumped in defeat.
That night, they slept in separate rooms, the rift between them growing wider with each passing moment. Leyla lay in bed, staring at the ceiling, her mind racing with worry and doubt. Zeynep was tearing them apart, and she felt powerless to stop it.
As the hours dragged on, Leyla couldn't shake the feeling of impending doom. She loved Kenan with all her heart, but the constant threat and stress were wearing her down. She wanted to be strong, to fight for their relationship, but at what cost?
In the other room, Kenan was likely feeling just as lost and frustrated. She knew he cared deeply for her and was doing his best to protect them both. But the weight of Zeynep's malicious actions hung over them like a dark cloud, threatening to suffocate their love.
Leyla closed her eyes, willing herself to find some semblance of peace. She couldn't let Zeynep win. She couldn't let fear and anger destroy what she had with Kenan. But in that moment, all she could do was lie there and hope that somehow, they would find a way through this nightmare together.
