A loud scream rings out. I look around. The old abandoned building, as dark as night, shakes and small chunks of rock on the ceiling fall to the floor.
I can still hear this terrible scream in my ears, even though it is deathly quiet right now. I turn towards the direction from where I heard the scream. Then I start to run. The only sounds I can hear are the splashing of the puddles as I run on them and the screaming, even though no one is screaming. The damp smell spreads through my nose. I see ivy growing on the walls. When I see a rotten door before my eyes, I stop and look around.
I hear water dripping from a broken pipe. Then I quietly open the door a crack to look into the room. But when a metallic smell hits my nose, all my back hairs stand up. The smell of blood fills my nose. The rippling sound of blood flowing out of a body.
I rush into the room and see Sabito leaning against a wall with a knife in his stomach. I spot another man wearing a dog mask, removing his gloves with blood. The man notices me, curses briefly and disappears faster than I can think.
I run to Sabito and hold both my hands on his stomach to stop the bleeding, but it's no use. More and more blood comes out of his stomach.
"I-I don't want to die", Sabito cries. He coughs blood out.
Tears are running down my cheeks. His eyes turn dark and I can't see live in his eyes anymore.
I wake up, with tears in my eyes.
I gasp in fear. A pressure builds up in my chest.
I get up, walk to the sink and wash my hands. I can still feel it. The warm blood on my hands, his scream, or his last breath. I just can't forget it. Sabito died on my last mission.
The mission I was never able to complete.
I try to wash the blood off my hands, but it doesn't help.
I can still feel it.
I can still hear it.
I can still see it.
The reddish glow on my hand. It just won't come off. I wipe the tears from my eyes and turn off the sink. I guess that's enough. I just can't do it.
I walk to a cupboard and grab a towel to dry my hands with. Then I let it hang over my shoulders and open my cell phone.
3 missed calles from Shinobu 🦟
I open my phone.
She is like I was, an agent. A friend. She was there in my hardest moments. Shinobu was very shocked at first when I suddenly resigned.
Being an agent was my life. The adrenaline that coursed through my body, or the countless cases I had solved. I was the best agent. But together with Sabito, we were an unbeatable team.
That's what we thought.
I click on the voice message she had left after the many calls.
"Hello Yuu. I know you're going through a difficult time right now, so take your time and rest. I'm sorry I couldn't contact you sooner. I've been very busy with you know what.
