I start running after the man in the dog mask. I can still hear the echo of his footsteps. I wipe the blood off my pants and try to catch up with him.
The tears in my eyes start to roll away. Leaving my friend's body behind me is not very respectful of me. I hate myself for it. But the revenge I want to exact is so great that I just have to finish him off. Anger rises up inside me.
I can already see his back.
His hair is raven black.
When I manage to grab him by his shoulder, I turn him around and he looks at me.
His mask is covered in Sabito's blood splatters. I start to hit him, but he fights it off. When I try to kick him in the face, he grabs my foot. I turn and use my other foot to kick him in the face, standing on my hands.
His mask cracks at the same moment.
He lets go of my foot and I stand back on my feet. Then he pulls out a knife. I rip his mask off my face, but at the same moment he cuts my eye. Blood flows out of my eye and I press on it, hoping the pain will stop soon.
But the pain gets worse and worse. "Aaargh! Aaaah!" I hear a scream until I realize it's my own. The man laughs.
I could have sworn his eye was glowing red, like a demon.
I hear him running away. I close my eyes and try to open them, but my body won't obey me. I can't remember how long I've been sitting here screaming. People appear. They try to carry me away, but I resist. "DON'T TOUCH ME!" I shake them off, but then someone grabs me and squirts something into my arm.
I'm starting to get sleepy.
The last thing I see is Tanjiro's face. When I finally wake up in the hospital, I'm told things I already knew.
Sabito has died and I could only watch and do nothing about it.
After all that, I finally quit my job as an agent.
And the man who killed him was nowhere to be found.
I close my eyes and open them again.
Then I knock on the rotten door. I hear a rumble and a fall. And soon afterwards a please wait. When he finally opens the door, he first looks carefully to see who it is and then immediately closes the door.
"WHAT DO YOU WANT? Don't come back!"
I kick the door open and it simply falls to the floor. "Go away! I want nothing to do with you!" He falls and slides backwards, over the bottles of whiskey and his dirty clothes.
He has dark circles under his eyes and his orange hair is a mess. His violet eyes are dull. He has bruises and abrasions. He also has knife cuts. I look towards the living room and there is dried blood on the floor.
"What happened?" I ask. The cracking of the glass under my feet worries me. It smells of strong alcohol.
"He threatened me! He said that if I met up with you again or told you about it, then..." he falls silent.
"Who is he?" I ask him. He looks scared.
Maybe I should ask something else. "Why did you kill her? I mean your brother and his wife?" He doesn't answer again.
"I'm not very patient when it comes to questions, so you'd better answer me or you won't be well for very long."
"They had borrowed money. They had only borrowed money for their own store." I frown. "From whom? And why are they dead because of it?"
"The mafia! My boss had instructed me to threaten them if they didn't return the money at the right time. They didn't believe me, they really didn't.
I never wanted to kill them! Believe me! But those red eyes-" He winces.
Red eyes?
"Go on."
"He's also called the Demon King!
He also has his three lapdogs. They are one of the highest! They do everything for him, really everything, and he prefers them. When I refused to obey him, he threatened me that I would die in my brother's place, so I had to! You don't understand!
Once you're in, you're in forever!"
"And what was that about the one-night stand?"
I ask him.
"T-That-.... That should have been a trap. I never wanted a one-night stand...." I clutch my head and slowly walk out of the apartment. That was too much information all at once.
"WAIT! What about me now? I'm sure they'll get wind of this and kill me! Please! Please help me!" I just shake my head and leave.
Some people don't deserve help.
And he's one of them.

We must learn to help
those who deserve it, not just
those who need it.
Life responds to deserve
not need.
