Crying Is Sometimes Best

Anger, Fear and Disgust watch the screen, worried.

"Ohhh, I wish Joy was here!" SPLAT! The three turn to see (Y/N), Joy and Sadness hit the back window and slide down, grabbing the window edge.

The Emotions run to the window.

"It's Joy & (Y/N)!" Disgust cheers.

"Stand back! Arrrrgh!" Anger throws a chair at the window. It bounces off.

Disgust speaks sarcastically, "That worked."

"Well, what would you do, if you're so smart?!" Anger starts smoldering.

Disgust's eyes light up, "I'd tell you, but you're too dumb to understand."

"What?!" Anger smolders more.

"Of course your tiny brain is confused. Guess I'll just have to dumb it down to your level." She places her hands on her knees as she squats to his level, "Sorry I don't speak 'moron' as well as you, but let me try: Duuuuhhhhh."

Anger explodes, bursting into full blowtorch flames. Disgust, sporting a welding mask, picks him up and blows a hole in the window. (Y/N), Joy and Sadness climb through. Anger, Fear and Disgust all talk at the same time, explaining.

Fear quickly hugged (Y/N), "Oh, thank goodness you're back." Fear cried as (Y/N) hugged him too.

"Things are really messed up." Disgust looked down.

"We found this idea, and now Riley's on a bus heading for Minnesota!" Anger yelled.

Joy looks at the screen. As Riley stares vacantly out the bus window. The bus starts to pull away.

"(Y/N), Joy, you've got to fix this. Get up there." The three looked to Joy and (Y/N).

Joy sighs and shares a look with (Y/N), holding her hand as they turn to Sadness, "Sadness, it's up to you."

"Me?" Joy pushes Sadness towards the console.

"Sadness?!?" The three emotions yell.

"I can't, Joy." Sadness said.

"Yes you can." (Y/N) smiled, gesturing to the screen, "Riley needs you...she needs to feel the impact of this decision...not joy about leaving or loving this idea even more....she needs you."

Sadness looks at Joy and (Y/N), "Really?" The two nod.

On the screen, The bus pulls out onto the street. As Sadness approaches the console and takes charge.

"Okay." Sadness grips the Idea Bulb as the console is now completely black.

On the screen, The bus is on the road. Sadness works and ejects the Idea Bulb. The blackness retracts. As on the screen, Feeling comes back to Riley: her expression changes from listless to sad. She stands.

"Wait! Stop! I wanna get off." Riley quickly says as the bus stops and Riley runs to the front and out the door and Riley runs away from the bus.

The Emotions watch the screen in anticipation.

Riley runs back towards home. As at the house, Mom sits at the table, on the phone. Dad hovers.

Mom spoke on the phone, "Alright. Thank you. We will." She turns to Dad, "Her teacher hasn't even seen Riley all day."

"What? I can't believe this." Dad seemed more worried than upset.

"What was she wearing last? Do you even remember what–"

The door opens. Riley walks in. They rush over to her.

"Riley!" Mom cried.

"Riley, there you are! Thank goodness!" Dad smiled.

"Oh, we were worried sick! Where have you been? It's so late..." Mom cried more.

Sadness drives. Joy walks to her, holding the golden core memories. He hands his golden ones over to Sadness as (Y/N) does the same with hers. The core memories turn blue. Sadness places one in the recall unit. As the memory plays: Young Riley and young Meg walk side by side. As Riley remembers. Sadness places another blue memory in the recall unit. On screen, Young Riley makes cookies with Mom and Dad.

Riley runs around with underpants on her head, Dad chasing. Riley scores her first goal. Riley skates with Mom and Dad. Sadness places her hand on the console. It turns blue.

Riley cries, "I know you don't want me to but... I miss home. I miss Minnesota." Mom and Dad, concerned, listen quietly, "You need me to be happy, but... I want my old friends, and my hockey team... I wanna go home. Please don't be mad."

"Oh sweetie..." Mom rubs her back.

"We're not mad. You know what? I miss Minnesota too. I miss the woods where we took hikes." Dad confesses.

"And the back yard where you used to play." Mom smiled

"Spring Lake, where you learned to skate." Dad says as Riley cries harder, "Come here." He pulls Riley towards them.

The three hug.

Joy steps forward with (Y/N) as the two have one more gift for Sadness: the blue core memory. Sadness pulls Joy & (Y/N) by the hand and places it on the console. As on screen, still in an embrace, Riley smiles through her tears. BING! (Y/N), Joy and Sadness hear the sound of a new memory being produced. It's a new core memory, Hot Pink, Gold and Blue, swirled together. A first. The Emotions react in awe. The memory travels down the track and into the holder. A lightline extends out the back of Headquarters. It is a new family island, bigger than before. (Y/N) Joy and Sadness turn back to the console together. As (Y/N) lays her head on Joy's shoulder. His arm around her

On screen, Riley, Mom and Dad embrace. Watching the screen, Joy pats Sadness on the head with his arm still around (Y/N) as the other three watch from next to them. They're a team.
