Arriving at the Ravenwood mansion was nerve-wracking. I had only met Macon Ravenwood and Finnicki, and now I was about to meet the whole family. Alex didn't know I was coming; I hoped he wouldn't be mad. He told me to stay away from his family, but I couldn't resist. I wanted to know him entirely, family and all.

Finnicki and I got out of the car and walked to the door. Before going in, he turned to me and said, "Been a long time. Alex and I are more like brothers than cousins. I'm surprised he hasn't mentioned me. But then, I'm sure I couldn't count high enough all the things Alex hasn't mentioned." Finnicki sighed.

"Do I look okay?" he asked. "Always get a little nervous seeing the family."

"You have lovely eyes," he said, touching my chin. "Mm. You're lucky those lips are spoken for. May I?"

At that moment, I lost control of my body. It was like I was there, but I couldn't move. My body was moving by itself. "Mm. Such a gentleman too," he said when I involuntarily held my arm out for him to grab. It was as if he was controlling me. I tried to speak, but I couldn't even open my mouth. He opened the door, and when I looked inside, everything was different. There were leaves falling from the ceiling, trees inside the house, and then I saw an older woman holding a peacock?? What is going on here? Everything looked so out of place.

"Night, Mother," Finnicki said to the lady holding the peacock.

"Finnick," she said, her voice cold. "Oh. I told you to stay away."

"Why, I couldn't miss a holiday with my family now, could I, Mom?" Finnicki replied with a sly smile.

The air felt thick with tension as Finnicki led me further into the mansion. I was still struggling to regain control of my body, but my limbs wouldn't respond. The room was a bizarre blend of the natural and the surreal, with leaves falling from the ceiling and trees sprouting through the floor. The woman watched us with a piercing gaze, her eyes flicking between Finnicki and me.

"Well, well. Finnick, my dear. What an unpleasant surprise," said Macon Ravenwood, his voice dripping with sarcasm as he stepped into view.

"Uncle Macon. How old and weak you look," Finnicki replied with a smirk.

"I distinctly remember forgetting to invite you," Macon said, his eyes narrowing. Then he turned to me and said, "And I told you never to cross this threshold again."

I tried to speak, to explain, but nothing came out. My mouth remained stubbornly shut, and my limbs felt like lead.

"What?" Macon asked, noticing the desperation in my eyes. He turned back to Finnicki. "What have you done to him?"

"Invited him to dinner with the folks, is all," Finnicki said nonchalantly, his grip on my arm still firm.

"Well... why don't you escort your underdressed friend into the dining room?" Macon said, eyeing my gym clothes disdainfully. Everyone else was dressed in elaborate, old-fashioned attire, making me stand out even more awkwardly.

"Hello, coz," Finnicki said, stepping into the kitchen and noticing that Alex was there. "Don't you look handsome," he added with a smirk.

"Stiles?" Alex asked, his eyes widening as he saw me.

"Uh, ah—" I tried speaking, but nothing came out.

"Oh, isn't that sweet? He's all choked up. Must be love," Finnicki said with sarcasm, looking at us and still not letting go of my arm.

Alex's expression hardened. "Macon," he said, his voice tight with anger.

"He can do no real harm here." Ravenwood said trying to calm Alex
