13. Under the moonlight ( part 9)

 The quiet thud of the door seemed to resonate through the room, amplifying the silence that followed Taehyung's exit.

Jimin, noticing the heavy atmosphere, approached Jungkook with a gentle, understanding smile.

He placed a comforting hand on Jungkook’s shoulder, breaking the silence with his soft, reassuring voice. "Hey," he said, his tone filled with empathy. "How are you holding up?"

Jungkook forced a small smile, though it didn’t reach his eyes. "I’m okay, hyung. It's just..." He bit his lip. "Taehyung."

Jimin nodded sympathetically. "I can tell. Taehyung looked really tense when he left too. Have you two had a chance to talk about what happened?"

Jungkook shook his head, frustration evident in his eyes. “He keeps avoiding it. Every time I try to bring it up, he shuts down or changes the subject. I don’t know what to do anymore.”

Jimin squeezed his shoulder reassuringly. "Give him some time. Both of you have been through a lot, especially since you guys broke up and then your accident happened. Everything is messy; he's just trying to process everything in his own way."

"I understand that, but what about me?" Jungkook snapped, his tone sharp with impatience. "I just want everything to be like it was before we broke up. I want to feel normal again, like we're back to how things used to be. It feels like 'normal' was forever ago," he added with a sigh, running his fingers through his hair in a restless gesture.

"I hate the invisible space we have between us," Jungkook continued, his words carrying a touch of sadness. "It's like there's this distance, even though Taehyung is beside me and caring for me, there's this uncertainty that's tearing me apart. And the feeling of holding onto the thin rope of our relationship... It's exhausting. I want to kiss him, I want to say sorry for everything that went wrong, and most of all, I want him to come back to me fully. I miss him."

"I know, Kook," Jimin said gently, his voice filled with compassion. "It's okay to feel that way, but you have to understand that it's not that easy. I don't know the reason for your breakup; Taehyung never told anyone. However, he went through a tough time while you two were apart, and after your hospitalization, he hasn't had time to take a breather. He still cares deeply for you and loves you, and I hope you know that. He just needs some time, and you have to be patient."

Jungkook nodded slowly, processing Jimin's words. "I'll try," he murmured hesitantly.

Meanwhile, Taehyung sat in his office, staring blankly at his computer screen. The morning's events replayed in his mind, and he couldn’t focus on his work. His heart felt heavy with guilt and regret. He never wanted to show Jungkook this horrid side of him, but this morning, he couldn't help himself.

Taehyung rubbed his temples, attempting to soothe the persistent headache that had plagued him since he arrived at the office.

The cacophony of clattering keyboards and the ceaseless hum of the office environment only intensified his discomfort. Each keystroke reverberated like a hammer against his skull, yet he gritted his teeth and persevered, determined to complete his tasks quickly despite waves of nausea creeping in.

By afternoon, Taehyung had finally finished his work, albeit with great struggle. He saved his file and quickly emailed it to his boss before leaving the office early.

Sliding into his car, Taehyung turned the key and drove out of the parking lot. He was supposed to head toward Jungkook's place, but his mind was in a fog, and his heart led him elsewhere.

Without consciously deciding, he found himself driving in the opposite direction, the familiar streets of the city blurring past him.

And before he knew it, the scent of the ocean hits him as he arrives at a place he hasn't visited in a long time—the beach.
