"How about getting a dog?" Jolie looked up from her phone and glanced at Charles, who had his head resting on her lap and was also on his phone. They had been in Miami since yesterday, and jet lag had significantly dampened their motivation on the evening of Media Day. "Where did that idea suddenly come from?" she asked amused, looking at him.
Charles grinned and showed her a photo of puppies. "Do you remember Mimi? There are new puppies, and they're looking for a home." Charles beamed at her. Jolie knew how much Charles loved that dog, and the possibility of having his own now was, of course, an exciting prospect.
"Is that so?" she asked, smiling as she gently stroked his head.
Charles nodded eagerly. "We could raise it together. We're flexible with our jobs... well, when I'm racing, you'd have to take care of it, but I'll do it when you're at events or something. Or Maman could watch it, or Arthur... I'd be there a lot too, it wouldn't all fall on you. I'd also take it out at night and everything," he rambled on, and Jolie started laughing. He was really a sweetheart when he wanted something.
"It's okay, amore. You know I love dogs," she said, smiling. "We can look at the puppies and then figure out a way for our daily routine." She continued to stroke his head.
Charles beamed at her. "Really! Oh, I have the best girlfriend on this planet," he exclaimed and immediately started tapping on his phone. Jolie shook her head, amused, and returned to her phone. She checked her messages and responded to a few. Most hate messages she deleted and blocked the senders. She didn't need to put up with that nonsense. She had also noticed that she was appearing more frequently on gossip sites. For example, there was a picture of her standing in the casino square in Monaco, talking on the phone with a Louis Vuitton bag. People were gossiping that Charles funded everything for her. Others were upset about how flashy her car was, assuming it was from Charles too, even though Jolie had the car long before she met Charles and car content had been a big part of her account, also long before Charles. But Jolie had no desire to argue or explain herself. It wouldn't help anyway. She was all the more pleased with the fans who corrected these misconceptions.
"Are you reading hate messages again?" Charles pulled her out of her thoughts as he reached for her phone and read the messages. "You know that what they write isn't true," he said softly, looking at her worriedly.
Jolie nodded. "I know, it's just annoying." She leaned forward and kissed him gently. "By the way, thanks for my car, even though you didn't know me then," she winked at him.
Charles grinned. "I guess I hit the bullseye with the car, huh?" He nudged her in the side. Then there was a knock at the door. "Food's here," he smiled and got up to get the food. Jolie followed him, smiling, and poured water into the glasses.
"What delicious thing did you order?" she asked curiously.
Charles grinned. "Steak with vegetables and rice," he said, placing the food on the table. "And tiramisu."
Jolie laughed. "Well, if Andrea hears about this," she kissed him on the cheek and sat down with him.
After they had eaten, they cleaned up the kitchen together before making themselves comfortable on the sofa. Charles gently took Jolie's hand in his and played with her fingers. In recent days, she had often noticed that he kept his fingers busy and sought her proximity. She just let him be and enjoyed the closeness.
"Pierre asked if we wanted to have dinner together in Imola," Charles said finally.
Jolie looked up and nodded. "Sure," she replied, resting her head on his chest.
