Chapter 3

"Hailey, come on you've been in there for like an hour I swear!" My older sister, Lauren, yelled from the other side of the bathroom door.

"One second geez Lauren I have to look nice for school!" I call back. I have to admit I wasn't just trying to look good for school in general, but so all of the other girls will get jealous of me. I know that probably sounded bad but ever since 3rd grade, I've been working my tail off trying to become and stay popular.

"Okay you can have your precious bathroom now" I say to her while leaving the bathroom. She just rolls her eyes and continues walking in.

"Mom, don't forget I'm sleeping over at Krista's today because it's Friday!" I yell down the stairs to my mom. "Okay sweetie, get dressed so we can get a move on!" She yells back.

I walk into my room and head towards my closet. I look at all of the clothes before picking an outfit I recently bought from my favorite store, Justice. I slip on the dark washed skinny jeans and pull the frilly yellow shirt over my head.

I look in my floor length mirror and practice smiling and saying "Hi" to people, because that's what you do when you're the most popular girl in your grade. I walk downstairs and get my backpack on before putting on my sparkly silver sandals.

"Bye mom, love you." I say as we pull up to the school. "Bye Hailey see you tomorrow!" she calls as I exit the car. Once I enter the school I am immediately pulled into a hug from behind me. "Guess who..." They whisper from behind me, I grin once I realize who it is. "Ummm, I'm just taking a wild guess here, but I'm pretty sure it's Brett?" I say with a small laugh before turning around to face him.

"Aw man, I thought you would think it was someone else." He says with a frown. "Who else would it be?" I ask while nudging his arm. "I don't know, maybe that jerk butt Matty kid." He replies, suddenly looking enraged, you could practically see the smoke coming out from his ears.

"Look, Brett, you don't have to worry about Matty okay? He's just some annoying boy who likes me, there's a lot of them in this school, you know that, but I only like you I promise." I assure him while feeling pang of guilt for my little white lie. I mean sure Matty's annoying, but I don't know there's something about him that just is irresistible.

"Okay, I know. I'm sorry for overreacting." He apologizes. "You don't have to apologize." I say before he engulfs me into another hug.
Little did I know, Matty was just around the corner.

{MATTY'S POV}
I smiled while turning the corner, I had just finished making my mom buy flowers and candy for Hailey as an apology. I see her and Butt Marshall hugging. I hate him, why is he so special. I close my eyes and let out a puff of air. Hailey walks by me and I instantly regret calling her boyfriend a butt. However, as she walks by, she rolls her eyes at me. How is that possible? I thought we had something. I scream internally and throw my bouquet of flowers on the ground. "OUCH!!!!" I hear. I realized I may have just made the worst mistake of my life. One of the thorns from the flowers has stabbed Hailey in the foot!
