I have never told my story, though others have and think they know my life. They called me monster, creature, Prince, murderer; I was, I am. The name my enemies don't know me by is husband. I was once the luckiest man in all of Romania, in all the world. Her name was Elizabeta, and she was the most beautiful woman my eyes had ever seen, and the world agreed. Her porcelain skin caught daylight like a pearl, her eyes the most vibrant ivy green; she was desired and admired by many but loved only me. My wife, her love was the greatest gift from my God, for it could only be through God's grace that a woman so magnanimous would gaze upon my being so fiercely. Our love was a fire, forever burning through all matters thrown at us. Elizabeta stood by my side while I protected our lands from invaders. The Dragon, that's what my men called me when I adorned my brilliant red armor. In battle, you could see my silhouette approaching from afar, and men quivered in fear. When our enemies threatened our extinction, I knew I had to leave Elizabeta to meet them. She begged me not to, but still, she understood I was the only one who could lead them. If I had known that departure would be our last embrace, I would have kissed my beloved longer, held her closer, and perhaps taken her with me. Our enemies infiltrated our home as servants and clergymen. They deceived my beloved, told her I fell in battle and my body burned. In her despair, believing me dead, she jumped from the highest tower of our castle into the river below. As she took her final step, I felt my wife's soul in anguish, and I returned home as quickly as my horse and feet would carry me. I was too late, and I knew, but when I saw her retrieved body on the floor of the altar, I lost all sense and logic. My anguish consumed me, and in my heartache, I renounced my God. The shrill of my screams echoed throughout the castle walls, and my people fled. I do not blame them, for what happened to me next no being should witness.

Words cannot encompass the sight.
