A/n: By my usual standard, this is a pretty long chapter, so be prepared. Have fun!

Hyacinth woke up to light streaming in through the flowing curtains and Dax pushing his nose into her face. She groaned, rolling over and covering her face with both hands before sitting up in annoyance.

Looking around, she examined the room carefully. The comforter on her bed was pink silk, and most of the decorations around her room were some form of pastel colour. She frowned. It was a very pretty room, but not exactly her style. She would have to change that if she were going to be spending a lot of time there– hopefully she wouldn't be.

A knock at the door startled her a bit, but she recovered and called out, "Who is it?"

"It's Evie. May I come in?" a voice said back to her. Evie. The Evil Queen's kid. Hyacinth shook her head, pushing the thought away; she didn't like being referred to by who her parents were, and she didn't doubt that Evie felt the same.

"Uh, yeah," Hyacinth called uncertainly. The door opened and Evie stepped in. She still had the same long blue hair she had as a kid, but looked much prettier than she had back then– though she had always been admittedly beautiful.

"Oh. Are you all right?" Evie asked, looking genuinely concerned.

"Huh? Yeah, why?"

"Your eyes are red, like you've been crying," Evie pointed out quietly.

"Oh- uh, no. That was last night," Hyacinth explained, getting up and moving over to the mirror by the vanity, trying to wipe away the mascara under her eyes and cool the leftover redness. Evie went to sit on the bed but stopped when Dax growled. Hyacinth turned around and scolded him. "Dax, no. She's a friend. No growling."

Dax laid back down, eyeing Evie. She sat down and put out a hand for him to smell. He sniffed at it gently before deciding that he liked her and plopping his head down in her lap.

"So... Hyacinth," Evie started awkwardly.

"Evie," Hyacinth replied, feeling equally unsure.

"You're still the only person to ever escape the Isle," Evie informed. Hyacinth shrugged.

"You got out," she retaliates.

"True, but we didn't really escape, we were invited out."

"Fair enough." Awkward silence filled the room again until Evie reached out and took Hyacinth's hand.

"I'm sorry for everything that has happened to you and is currently happening to you. But I promise Auradon will grow on you eventually," she murmured sincerely.

"Thanks," Hyacinth muttered, not convinced.

"Hyacinth..." Evie thought aloud. "That's a pretty name. Kind of long though. Can I abbreviate it? Y'know, give you a nickname?"

"Sure. I've had a few different ones. You can choose from one of those or make your own," Hyacinth decided. "I've been called Hya– which I hated–, Synth, Ace, and Hyacie. Take your pick."

"I like Ace, and Hyacie," Evie decided.

"Either is fine with me," Hyacinth agreed.

"Okay, Hyacie," Evie grinned. "Sadly, I did not just come to chat. I'm supposed to give you a tour and reintroduce you to the other VKs."
"Oh, joy. Okay, just let me get cleaned off and dressed. Then I'll be ready."

After showering and getting dressed in chunky ankle boots, grey patchwork pants, a maroon crop top, a grey flannel, and black denim vest, Hyacinth went to the bathroom to do her hair and makeup.
