"If you guys never would've brought him here, this never would've happened. What were you thinking?" Mal berated them, standing with her arms crossed and a glare in her eyes that reminded Hyacinth strangely of her adoptive mother. They were all in the hideout, scattered idly across the room as Mal stared them down like a disappointed and angry parent.

"He was going to come with or without us," Evie reasoned. "We just wanted to protect him."

"Yeah, and we completely blew it," Carlos grumbled. Hyacinth tilted her head in agreement.

"Okay, so what're we going to do?" Jay asked, always the mediator.

"We are not doing anything. This is between Uma and me, and she's a punk. And guess what, now I have to go get him," Mal complained, glaring pointedly at the group.

"Woah, woah, woah, Mal, you're still going to have to go through Harry Hook and his wharf rats," Carlos reminded.

"Yeah, you're gonna need us," Jay added.

Hyacie cleared her throat. "Did you guys miss the part where he said to come alone?"

"She's right. Uma said to come alone," Mal agreed.

"Mal, come on," Evie tried.

"She said to come alone," Carlos reiterated. "I know one thing; I'm not going anywhere."

"Yeah, I don't think it's wise to put Auradon's future king at risk. I'm just saying," Hyacie pointed out, raising her hands in surrender. There was a long pause of silence while everyone else considered it.

Finally, Jay spoke up. "We'll be here when you get back." Mal didn't reply, only looked over the group one last time and walked out without another word.

"Great: bored. Bored, again," Hyacinth sighed.

Hyacie had tried to entertain herself, but the stress of the situation made it hard to keep her mind on anything but that. She was immensely grateful when Mal returned to ease her anxiety. She relaxed, just a bit, and stood up from the couch to meet Mal.

All her anxiety came flooding back when Mal looked at her gravely and uttered four words: "She wants the wand."

"Shit."

"There is no way we're going to give Uma the wand. We can't just let her destroy Auradon," Evie cried, pacing back and forth.

"Uma doesn't get the wand, then Ben is toast, guys," Carlos reminded them.

"Okay, so if we don't give her the wand then we have no next ruler of Auradon, but if we do give Uma the wand, there will be no Auradon left for Ben to rule. Does that sound about right?" Hyacinth snarled, messing with her pocket knife while she thought of alternatives.

"Great, so we're gonna give Uma, of all people, the wand." Evie groaned, looking annoyed and hopeless.

"Wait, you guys–" Mal cut in. "Your 3D printer."

"A phoney wand," Carlos caught on. "In my sleep."

"In- in your sleep?" Hyacie questioned, raising an eyebrow. Carlos waved her off, saying that it wasn't important.

"But the second Uma tests it she'll know it's fake," Evie told them.

"So negative, Eves," Hyacie tutted sarcastically, clicking her tongue. Evie scoffed quietly.

"We just have to get Ben out really fast. We'll need some kind of diversion," Mal continued.

"Smoke bombs!" Jay suggested.
