Maddie's POV
What could he possibly want to talk about? I sat up straight as a rustled something in his pocket. He took a deep breath, slowly taking out a piece of paper.Silently, he slid the paper over to me. I looked at my mom confused. I opened it half way and she looked at me with these blank, empty eyes... You could tell she was empathetic but for what?
The paper was white and folded neatly. I opened it to see that it was just Anna's birth certificate.
Annabelle Catherine Mauro.
Born Februaury 17, 1999 10:36 am
Parents John and Hadley Mauro. All of this I knew. We were two minutes apart. Her being older. Why was this so important?
Then I saw him take another paper and what looked like a picture. This one was old, crumpled and almost burnt. I opened the paper, ignoring the picture. What could it be. Another document about our birth....
It was. It was about my birth.
Madeline Adelaide Osler
January 31, 1999. 5:47pm
Parents Jackson and Laura Osler.Osler.... I've never heard of these. Why is ours different? I was born February 17, 1999 at 10:38 in the morning. Anna and me are twins. We've been sisters since birth. We were womb mates. Right? I started to hyperventilate. I began to grab the other paper, but before you knew it... I blacked out.
Anna's POV
What's she looking at? Nobody has spoken for a while and Maddie's is looking at these papers I've never seen before. Her expression turned from confused to sarcastic to a panic. She placed her hand on her mouth in disbelief and in a blink of an eye she was on the floor holding the paper.
She was out for a good 10 minutes. Mom and dad weren't that shocked or concerned but seemed more upset and heart broken. I fanned her off waiting for her. Once she began to stir I took the papers. I held two different birth certificates. One entitled with my name and another with Madeline.... Oslers.
"Mom...she's adopted? I'm not a twin? Why?"
Our attention shifted to Maddie sitting up. My dad was a fireman so he knew what to do. "Care to explain..." She said quietly and still kind of out of it.
Johns POV
"Remember how your gr-," changing his choice in words,"my moms house burnt down in 2001 and it spread to the next house over..."
I didn't look at her. I have prepared this speech before, thinking I would give it at a better time.
"I remember that day like it was yesterday. It was 12:49 when the fire department called me. I rushed over to my relief seeing my mom safe but the neighbors still a blaze. It was the Osler house. I heard a feint cry coming from the cop car. A small brown haired girl, holding her doll. She has the prettiest green eyes."
I started to choke up at the memory. Hadley put her arm on my shoulder and continued.
"Honey, you were the only one who survived..."
Maddie's POV
Am I dreaming? I couldn't take this drama right now. Still feeling dizzy, I ran upstairs, locked my door and called Matt. I need him right now. He always knows what to do.
