Lisbon POV
It's a long drive to a small lodge in the middle of a forest. We just got a phone call from Bertram with a new case so we made our way there. We drove with different cars in case we had to split up so it was Rigsby in one car, Cho in one car and me and Jane. I ordered Van Pelt to stay at the headquarters to do some research. Jane talks all the time as always about some random facts that no one ever needed.

„Did you know that the pilot and co-pilot never eat the same thing on board. So it is less likely that both will get food poisoning at the same time." Jane states.

„Oh really?" I answered annoyed focused on the road.

„Oh but did you know that the brain automatically hides unnecessary information?"

It's kinda cute how proud he is but after knowing him 10 years you learned to ignore it otherwise you would go crazy.

„No!"

„It's called "selective perception." An example of this is when you focus on a specific task and unconsciously hide other ambient noises or visual stimuli. This can lead to us not perceiving certain details, even though they are present in our environment. Our perception is therefore selectively focused on what seems relevant for the current task."

„Ah is that the reason why I've already forgotten what you just said?"

„If you've really already forgotten it, then you couldn't say that you've already forgotten it because actually you don't know what you forgot"

„Eh shut up!"

After a little more time with many more facts we were finally at the crime scene. When we walked in the small wooden house Cho and Rigsby already got every information.

„What do we have Rigsby?"

„Maxwell Sterling, 62 years old, he was a writer. He was tied to this chair and got some tape on his mouth. Bruising shows that he was tortured and his thumb is cut off on his right hand. He was killed by a shot in the back of the head with a 9 millimeter."

„What about his family?"

„His ex-wife and his daughter are already informed. His ex-wife Eleanor Sterling or now Eleanor Anderson, she still lives in California with her new husband Walter Anderson. Van Pelt already talked to his daughter on the phone. His daughter, Angela. 28 years old, she lives in Texas and works for a newspaper. After she has been informed she made her way to the CBI. She should be there in like 2 hours"

„Thanks Rigsby"

When I looked at Jane, he was totally pale in his face. I went through my head again what just happened when I remembered it.

Angela. That's the name of Jane's wife. His dead wife.

„Jane, you're alright?"

„Hm? Yeah, I'm fine. I'm going to catch some fresh air"

I looked at Rigsby, who just like me didn't know what to do. I haven't seen Jane like that in a long time. So absent. I thought he was slowly over it at least that he can hear the names again. I think it's the best for him to give him some time alone now. I have to take care of a case anyway.

*~*~*

Due to the fact that you can avoid questioning the neighbors, Cho left to question the victim's ex-wife. Through a picture that was placed above the fireplace, we have other writers who were close to Maxwell Sterling. I would just say good friends but after working so long with Jane I would da there was always a rival fight between them.

After I sent a photo to Van Pelt, we were able to quickly find out the names: First we have Henry Blackwood, 58 years old. He lives in Minnesota and can already be seen in many older photos with Maxwell Sterling. The other man is Gabriel Benett, 65 years old. Next to him stands his son Nathaniel Benett, 32 years old. Both live in Washington state.

We have already sent everyone a message that they should make their way to California as soon as possible.

When I looked at everything closely, I decided to drive back to the CBI, as the daughter would also be there soon. So I went out to look for Jane, which wasn't exactly easy.

Jane POV
Why does it hurt so much again? I don't know exactly but not so long ago I found out that Red John is still alive. The man I shot in the mall wasn't Red John! I haven't told anyone about it so far, not even Lisbon. Otherwise I'll tell Lisbon everything! This news shocked me a lot. I have panic again like at the very beginning.

I was totally absorbed in my thoughts when Liebon suddenly arrived.

"Here you are. I've been looking for you for 10 minutes!" She said annoyed.

"God Lisbon, don't scare me like that. I just got some fresh air."

„Are you all right? You were totally pale and just disappeared", she said now in a sensitive voice, „I haven't seen you like that in a long time"

„Like what?"

„So absent and- and scare. So paranoid. I'm worried Jane!"

„Eh I'm fine"

„Sure? You can always talk to me, you know that, don't you?"

„I'm fine, but thank you Lisbon."

„All right. We have to go. The daughter should arrive at the CBI soon" Lisbon said with her soft voice and that sweet smile. I'm glad we've slowly become friends after these years.
