Nobody's pov-
It had been a few weeks since the concert, and Paige was finally being released from the hospital. The doctors had declared her well enough to go home, even though her heart wasn't ready to leave. Gabriella still hadn't woken up, and Paige felt a deep sadness at the thought of leaving her behind. She wanted to stay by her side, but her father insisted she needed to rest at home.
As much as Paige didn't want to leave, her father's concern was clear. "You need to recuperate, Paige," he said firmly. "Home is where you'll heal best."
Reluctantly, Paige complied, knowing that her return home also meant facing the reality of her responsibilities, especially with basketball. She had missed practices and games, and her team was counting on her.
When she arrived home, Paige was immediately struck by how different everything felt. Brown moving boxes were scattered everywhere. Her heart raced as she wondered what was happening. Were they moving? The thought was unbearable. Moving would mean leaving behind her friends, her basketball career, and most importantly, Gabriella. The idea of leaving her enemy-turned-friend in such a vulnerable state filled her with anxiety.
Paige almost had a panic attack as she entered the living room, where her parents and younger brother were waiting. She took a deep breath and tried to steady herself as she sat down.
Her mother and father sat across from her, their expressions serious. Her little brother sat next to her, fidgeting nervously. Finally, in a smooth but painful way, her mother spoke.
"We're moving to Florida, Paige," her mother said softly.
Paige's heart sank. She felt a wave of emotions crash over her—fear, sadness, and a sense of helplessness. She didn't say anything, just nodded her head, her thoughts a whirlwind of confusion and despair.
Her parents started explaining their reasons for moving. They talked about new job opportunities, a fresh start, and the recent attack. They believed Florida would be safer, a place where Paige and the rest of the family could escape the trauma and threats that had haunted them.
But all Paige could think about was Gabriella. Was she going to be left behind in a place that had become increasingly dangerous? Paige's mind raced with worry. She couldn't imagine not being there when Gabriella woke up. She had to know that someone was there for her, that she wasn't alone in her recovery.
"Mom, Dad," Paige finally spoke up, her voice trembling. "What about Gabriella? She's still in the hospital. I can't just leave her here."
Her parents exchanged a glance. Her father spoke gently, "Paige, I know this is hard. But we have to think about our safety, and yours. Gabriella will have her family to take care of her. You need to focus on getting better and moving forward."
Paige wanted to argue, to tell them that Gabriella's family situation was complicated and that she might not get the support she needed. But the words caught in her throat. She felt trapped between her love for her family and her newfound sense of duty toward Gabriella.
The days passed in a blur as they prepared for the move. Paige helped pack up the house, each box filled with memories of her life here. She visited the hospital every day, spending as much time as she could with Gabriella, talking to her, hoping she would wake up.
On the last day before the move, Paige sat by Gabriella's bedside, holding her hand. "I don't know what's going to happen, Gabby," she whispered. "But I promise I'll find a way to keep in touch. I won't leave you alone in this. You've got to wake up, okay? We still have so much to figure out."
Tears filled Paige's eyes as she leaned down and pressed a gentle kiss to Gabriella's forehead. She stood up, taking one last look at her friend before walking out of the room.
As Paige and her family drove away from the house, the weight of leaving pressed heavily on her chest. She stared out the window, silently vowing to find a way to stay connected with Gabriella. She couldn't shake the feeling that their story was far from over, and that they would need each other more than ever in the days to come.
