Chapter 1: The Breaking Point

Carina left Maya after the hospital incident, feeling betrayed and overwhelmed by the chaos that had ensued. The love she once felt seemed tainted by the fear and anxiety that now clouded her heart. She stopped talking to Maya, blocking her phone number and even banning her from the OB floor of Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital.

As she packed away their wedding photos and tucked her wedding ring into a drawer, Carina felt a pang of guilt and sorrow. She wasn’t just leaving Maya; she was leaving behind the life they had built together. But she needed space to heal and to find herself again.

Maya, on the other hand, was devastated. She had lost the love of her life and felt the weight of that loss pressing down on her every day. Her mental health spiraled as she tried and failed to contact Carina, leaving voicemails and sending messages that went unanswered. The pain of Carina’s absence was a constant ache in her chest.

Chapter 2: Walls Erected

Carina's emotions were a whirlwind of anger, sadness, and regret. Blocking Maya and banning her from the OB floor was a necessary step for her own sanity, but it tore at her heart. She stopped wearing her wedding ring, feeling its weight like a shackle to a past she needed to escape. She reverted to using her old badge, “Dr. DeLuca,” as a way to reclaim her identity and distance herself from the pain.

Carina’s colleagues noticed the change in her, the absence of her usual bright smile, and the guarded look in her eyes. Amelia Shepherd, a close friend, tried to reach out, but Carina was resolute in her decision. She needed to heal on her own terms, even if it meant shutting everyone out.

Chapter 3: Maya’s Descent

Maya was a shell of her former self. The strong, confident firefighter now struggled with a profound sense of loss and guilt. She replayed the events that led to Carina’s departure over and over in her mind, wondering what she could have done differently. Her sleep was plagued by nightmares, and her performance at Station 19 began to suffer.

Andy and Vic noticed Maya’s decline and tried to support her.

"Maya, you can't keep doing this to yourself," Andy said gently, sitting next to Maya in the station’s kitchen. "You need to talk to someone, get some help."

Maya shook her head, her eyes filled with tears. "I can't, Andy. I lost Carina. Nothing else matters."

Vic chimed in, "We know you're hurting, but we're here for you. You don't have to go through this alone."

Maya looked at her friends, appreciating their concern but feeling lost. "I just don't know how to move on without her. She was my everything."

Chapter 4: Desperate Measures

**Title: Clinging to Hope**

Determined to find a way back to Carina, Maya resorted to desperate measures. She would linger outside the hospital, hoping to catch a glimpse of her wife, but Carina always seemed to avoid her. Each rejection felt like another wound, compounding her sense of hopelessness.

One day, Maya saw Carina in the ER, her heart leaping with a mix of hope and dread. She noticed her bare hand and name tag. Which breaks her heart into a million pieces.  She approached cautiously, uncertain of how Carina would react.
