Chapter 1: The Gruesome Discovery
Detectives Maya Bishop and Andy Herrera walked through the rain-soaked streets of Seattle, their breaths visible in the cool morning air. The call had come in at dawn, pulling them from their beds with promises of something particularly grisly. As they approached the crime scene, the yellow police tape fluttered in the wind, a stark barrier between the normal world and the horrors that awaited within.
Initial Investigation
The victim, a middle-aged man, lay in a pool of blood in his living room. His face was a mask of terror, and his body bore the marks of a savage attack. Maya knelt beside the body, her eyes scanning for any clues.
“Whoever did this knew what they were doing,” she said, her voice tight with concentration. “No signs of forced entry. It’s like he let the killer in.”
Andy stood by the door, his eyes surveying the room. “There’s almost no evidence. No fingerprints, no hair, nothing.”
Maya’s frustration simmered beneath her calm exterior. She hated cases like this—cases where the killer was meticulous, leaving them with nothing but questions.
Radio Show Introduction
Later that evening, the airwaves crackled to life with the familiar voice of Carina DeLuca. Her show, "Night Talk with Carina," was a hit across the nation, drawing in listeners with her sharp wit and no-holds-barred attitude.
“Good evening, everyone,” Carina purred into the microphone. “Tonight, we’re talking about fear. What scares you the most? Call in and let’s discuss your deepest fears.”
The First Call
As the night progressed, the calls rolled in. But one call, in particular, sent a chill down Carina’s spine.
“I’ve seen fear,” the caller said, his voice eerily calm. “I’ve seen it in the eyes of my victims.”
Carina straightened in her chair, a flicker of alarm crossing her face. “Victims? What are you talking about?”
The caller chuckled softly. “You’ll find out soon enough. The man today, he was just the beginning.”
Panic and Realization
Maya and Andy were driving back to the precinct when they heard the call on the radio. Maya’s grip tightened on the steering wheel, her knuckles white.
“Turn it up,” she said urgently.
As they listened, a sense of dread settled over them. The details the caller shared were too accurate, too intimate. This was their killer.
“We need to talk to Carina DeLuca,” Andy said grimly. “She might be our only link to this guy.”
Conflict Established
The next morning, they arrived at the radio station, greeted by Carina’s assistant. Maya’s eyes narrowed as she saw the large poster of Carina in the lobby, her confident smile and striking looks radiating arrogance.
Carina met them in her office, her demeanor cool and composed.
“So, you think one of my callers is your killer?” she asked, arching an eyebrow.
“We know he is,” Maya replied, struggling to keep her irritation in check. “We need your help to track him down.”
Carina leaned back in her chair, a smirk playing on her lips. “Well, isn’t this interesting? I always knew my show had an impact, but I never imagined this.”
