Maddy POV:
3:30am

I sigh, as I look down at my phone. In five hours, I'll be on a plane. In 8 hours I'll be in Washington. Don't get me wrong, I love Forks. I love my dad. The issue is that him and I haven't seen each other in 4 years. Haven't talked in 4 years.

It's my fault really. He sent me away. We had an argument. I caused it. He sent me away again. Only this time, away meant to my mother's. Renee, the chaotic mess, was worse though.

'Why can't you be more like Bella?'

'Why can't you just control yourself?'

'Get better grades!'

'Bella would never act like that'

Her words rung in my head. I know she means well. I know she loves me just as much as Bella. I just wish she wouldn't compare us. Bella and I are complete Opposites.

Bella is average height, flat as a board, and shy. She looks more like dad with long dark brown hair and equally as dark wide doe eyes. She has a heart shaped face with a pale complexion. She was kind and quiet, but if you mention a book she won't shut up. She's a neat freak and hates fashion. I could go on and on.

Me? I'm short with slight curves, and not afraid to put myself out there. I also have dark hair, but it's wavy like my mom's. I have Hazel eyes, a square jaw, and a barely there tan. I'm loud and annoying, but if I'm uncomfortable or upset then I'm silent. I'm a mess and have what I think is good style.

The only thing we have in common is our protective nature towards each other. Bella is always there to defend me when our mother lectures me. Just like I'm always there to defend her whenever kids at school would pick on her. She's my best friend.

Our mother recently got married to some dude named Phil. He's about 10 years younger with short Brown almost black hair and a douche strip. If you don't know what that is, it's a patch of beard hair from the bottom lip to the center of the chin with everything else shaved. He plays minor league baseball. I'm indifferent about him.

I'm currently sitting on our back porch swing in front of the pool, joint in hand. So glad this shit is legal now. Also glad it's legal in Washington. I might not be 21 yet, but I've never been stopped or had to show an ID, thanks to my medical card. I exhale the grey smoke watching it slowly disappear as I looked at my rolled beauty.

The door slowly opens behind me, my sister stepping out. "Hey, Mads. What are you still doing up?" I glance over my shoulder, silently gesturing for her to sit. I take a few moments to think about my fear and how to word it. "I'm scared."

Her head whips towards me, those doe eyes widening. I understand her surprise. I don't like admitting when I'm scared. I usually just play it off with sarcasm. I watch, holding eye contact, as she relaxes but furrows her brows. They've always been slightly uneven. I'm not telling her though.

"What are you scared of? I thought you loved Forks?" I take a drag off my joint before offering her a hit. She doesn't smoke often, mostly when her brain is processing too much information. Our parents don't know though.

Me? Sure, but that's expected. Bella, however, is the golden child. "Here. You're gonna need it if I tell you." She gently grabs it out of my hands, taking a small pull. She gives me a small smile as a go ahead.
