The day Dream messed with magic was still his biggest regret.

He remembered how twisted hands sprang up from a spell book and dove their hands into Dream's ribcage, he remembered how the hands grabbed his soul, sending icy needles throughout his body as he screamed and tried to grab the hands, his fingers slipping through the hands as if it was fog.

He remembered when the hands tore most of the bright yellow essence from his soul as he begged for the pain to stop, his sockets leaking from tears as his body felt as though it was on fire. The pressure from what was left of him squeezed as if he were thousands of feet underwater. He could barely breathe, every inhale felt like he was taking in volcanic air.

He remembered when the pain began to disappear as the hands dissipated with a ball of bright yellow essence from his soul leaving him with a tinted yellow soul, nearly empty.

He remembered voices yelling at him and the feeling of being lifted as his pain began to subside but continued to linger.

He vaguely remembered his twin telling him he'd be okay and everything would be alright as his parents and eldest brother stared at him, fear and anger on their faces.

He remembered leaving his family behind as he snuck out of the castle he'd lived in his whole life, abandoning his crown. His only regret then was leaving his twin with no explanation.

It was all in the past now, he could never go back.

Dream had died when he left his old life, and from the ashes had arisen his new name, Apollo Micah.

And now, Dream traveled throughout the kingdom, searching for anything that could bring him back in full as his soul sat in his chest, painfully trying to reach for what was missing.

Beside Dream, a fox bounced through the autumn leaves.

"Toby," Dream called, the fox froze, looking up at Dream as a leaf landed on the fox's head. "We gotta go," Dream said, patting his leg as he adjusted his cloak around his neck.

The fox trotted over, panting happily.

Dream nodded, pulling the hood of his cloak over his head as he started forward, "Let's go."
