Shubman's cry woke Ishan that night. The taller was shaking vigorously, his face distressed and tear stained. Ishan tried to shake him awake, but Shubman kept on crying, repeating, "Please, please, I'm trying."
Shubman's heartbeat was so loud that Ishan could almost hear it.
"Baby, baby, its okay, I'm here. Wake up, Jaan," Ishan said vigorously, shaking Shubman as he hugged him tighter.
Shubman fluttered his eyes half-open, trying to figure out his surroundings, his breaths uneven as he gasped for air in between his cries.
"Shubman, its me, Ishan. Baby, please calm down. Tell me what happened," Ishan said, hoping to comfort Shubman as he caressed his face with his feather-like kisses.
"Oh, Ishu," Shubman muttered as he nuzzled his head in Ishan's chest, his tears soaking into the shorter's chest.
They sat there quietly as Ishan muttered words of comfort to Shubman, trying not to push him. He waited patiently for Shubman to tell him what troubled him. It was some half an hour later that Shubman finally said something.
"I thought I lost you, baby...I had a nightmare..I-I, Oh god," Shubman choked out. Ishan took his face into his hand, as he reassured, "Laado, you will never lose me; okay, aise negative thoughts bus thoughts hai kabhi bhi saach nhi honge denge hum inko."
Shubman shook his head as he continued, "Itna real lag rha tha baby sab kuch."
"Meri jaan mujhe batao toh sahi ki tumne dekha kya," Ishan asked, his eyes softening with concern.
"I saw..that I lost you forever, that you were no longer present with us and all of this happened because we fought..I kept begging ki mujhse bhi lejao. Mei nhi rhe skta ishan ke bina..i don't think there is a world where Shubman can survive without his Ishan. It all felt too real, so raw, and you know the worst part, I couldn't do anything to save you. All I could do was cry and scream, but no one heard my prayer." Shubman's voice was so raw, so full of emotion, it said everything. His words made Ishan's heart heavy as he blamed himself for hurting Shubman, even if it was just in his dreams.
Ishan grabbed the taller by his face as he bore his eyes into his, his eyes full of determination and love as he reflected, "Shubman hum kahi nhi jayenge tumko chorke, mere dil mei tumhare liye ek alag si jagha hai agar mei kuch din tumsei dur rahta hoon toh pata nhi kese bechani hoti hai, tumhari khushi mei meri khushi hai aur hum tumhe humsei khush chahte hai yehi reason hai ki hum tumhe apni takleefe batane mei hesitate krte hai. Par itna hum khe skte hai ki chahe duniya samjhe yaa nhi hum hamesha ek hi hai. Hum tum ek hi hai."
With those heartfelt words, their bond was even stronger, their connection stronger, and they knew that no matter what, if they stayed together, one day the world would accept them, and if it didn't, maybe it would not matter as they had each other.
After a few soft kisses, words of admiration, comfort, and love, and much-needed cuddles, they felt asleep like two pods of a cacoon.
Ishan woke up before Shubman the next day. He knew that Shubman wouldn't be up for a few more hours. He decided that he would plan a date for them. Some quality time will make Shubman feel better, and with so many upcoming tours, they might not get time together with everything.
Shubman was woken with the smell of aloo parathas. Oddly, that reminded him of his mom. He made his way to the kitchen, where Ishan was cooking his favorite delicacy.
"Arey shubi ut gya chal aja baith, bata kya lega dahi ki chai bana do?" Ishan asked as he set out two plates onto the dining table.
"Dahi de de jaan, par yeh sab ki kya jaruart thi hum bahar sei mangalete na," Shubman suggested as he hugged Ishan, kissing his forehead. "Good morning, Meri Jaan."
