However, the battle turned to disaster for the alliance, the Roman Navy was unstoppable, especially since they lost most of their navy against their mortal enemy, the Fantasia Union, led by Marrine's love, Lord Alexis Doucet. The Roman Navy relied on Tall and large ships, with huge towers that armed scorpions, Ballistae and even Onagers capable of hurling heavy projectiles and incendiary devices. The Factory Alliance, with its diminished naval forces and lack of experience in facing such formidable enemies, found itself outmatched. The Romans' use of Greek fire proved particularly devastating, as the substance spread quickly across the wooden hulls of the Alliance's ships, turning the sea into a blazing inferno. And when Men who were lit tried to seek relief in the water, they only suffered more as the Greek fire continued to burn even on the surface of the water. The terrifying sight of men engulfed in flames, unable to find refuge, sent waves of panic and despair through the ranks of the Factory Alliance. Their fleet, already weakened and underprepared, crumbled under the relentless Roman assault.
On land, the situation was no better. The Romans relied on two forces, the front facing Limitani Repensis, conscripts or retired veterans who usually served as border troops formed the the first line of defense, and the Comitatenses, professional soldiers who formed the core of the Roman legions. Behind them were the elite troops, For the Western Empire, The Herculiani Seniores and Ioviani Seniores, the Elite Personal troops of a General or Emperor. These elite units, named after the Roman gods Hercules and Jupiter, were known for their discipline, superior training, and loyalty. The Roman army's strategic depth, combined with their advanced military tactics and engineering, made them a formidable force on the battlefield. Finally, unlike the legions of old, these units had a stronger Cavalry wing with Catafractarii, Heavy Shock Lancers, Equites Promoti, Melee Cavalry, and from their hunnic Foedoratii, Hunnic Devil Archers, Elite Hunnic archers who were skilled in both long-range and rapid-fire techniques. But the main advantage the Romans had over their enemies was discipline and cohesion. Their military organization was unmatched, and their tactics were refined through centuries of warfare. The Factory Alliance, despite their valiant efforts and fierce determination, were quickly overwhelmed by the superior Roman forces. The Roman Ground Commander, Claudius Honorius Varus, was an elderly Roman general with a storied career.
His experience dated back to the Battle of Cataluniun plains and he now controlled the most feared cavalry in all the world. While not a master strategist, he could see the knowledge in his Legates and Duxes, thusly he trusts only two Legates with Strategy, Gaius Junius Brutus, Son of Emperor Junius Brutus Maximus and Theodosius Maxentius Heraclius, son of the more incompetent Emperor, Magnus Maxentius Maximus.
