at my locker
forgot my combination
"Ugh." banged my forehead on the locker
"Hey." I got startled and
looked up,
it was the new kid
"You scared me." I said
"Oh, uh sorry." he said
"You okay?" he asked
"No, I forgot my combination." I answered
"Oh, well I can't help you with that."
he was hesitatingat what he was trying to say
"But, uhm, you, uh." he cleared his throat
"You want to go to the dance Friday?"
I looked at him, with a puzzled look
"What?" I asked
"You know the dance, this Friday. You want to go?"
"Uh, you do know I am pregnant, right?" I told him,
"Yeah, I know. But I want to take you out. I mean unless someone else asked you out."
he looked nervous
"Sure." I answered,"You better not be playing a prank on me."
"No, I'm not." he answered
I started to walk away,
"I'll pick you up at six."
he yelled across the hall
I looked back and
smiled...
