"Mickey? Come on, Becca, you must be joking." Randy laughed; he actually laughed at her suggestion. The most paranoid man she had ever known seemed to have so much faith in this one man that he could not conceive the idea that Rebecca would suggest him to be a murderer.
Becca took his hands in his and looked into his eyes, trying to convey without words that she was speaking in earnest.
He took a deep breath, a frown flitting across his features. "Alright, let's say I believe you... Why?"
"From what little I've seen and what you've told me, he just seems like the perfect mule. A scape goat for the real killer. I mean, he carries a camera everywhere; he's just a little too obsessed by movies, and when he looks at you, I can see this subtle look he does that makes it clear he'd be willing to betray you so easily. Honestly, Randy, I don't know why you're so loyal to him; I bet that right now, right in that cafeteria, he's suggesting to those around him the idea that you're the killer." Throughout all she said, she kept staring into his eyes, not backing down from her idea now that she'd said it aloud. Something about speaking out her suspicions fortified them in her mind to almost certainty.
"Right, you do make a point, and you were right last time. God, I can't believe it's Mickey. We can't tell the police now, I've seen the movies; they'll never believe us." He started to walk them towards the canteen, leaning in to whisper to Becca.
His breath tickled her ear in a way that made her bite her lips to stop her from giggling in an embarrassing fashion.
"Sitting tight doesn't feel right, though. I mean, we're just waiting to be stabbed in the back. Both literally and metaphorically."
Before Randy could utter a word, they'd pushed open the doors to the canteen and spotted a scene that was like something out of a rom-com. Derek and Sidney were kissing in front of a congratulatory crowd; they were getting an ovation for making out. It was ridiculous.
Ray immediately cupped his hands to his mouth and shouted loudly, "Get a room!"
Heads snapped towards him in that moment, and Randy was surprised when the crowd-hating Becca didn't shrink back into herself as she would've done a year ago. How times had changed them all.
Instead, she also went to shout across to the couple, "We just can't escape the sight of you two snogging!"
Sid blushed while Derek grinned over at them, so sickeningly in love that it made Becca turn to Randy and fake gag at the sight. Though, as Sid looked over at the two of them, she found herself for once in this whole affair, happy. Happy that she had a boyfriend like Derek to stick with her through the most trying of times, and happy that she had friends that understood her. That had been through what she'd been through and would continue to heal with her. Friends she could trust implicitly because if going through what they'd been through wasn't enough to solidify a permanent trust, then she didn't know what was.
They may have been estranged but in the end, it was as it should be. Sidney had three people to be the light in the blanket of clawing darkness that was Ghostface.
