Friday August 29,1963
Two day before the first day of school

"Joseph my angel are you up"
Joseph looks to his side at his clock it's 10:30 in the morning. He stretches his body making a load moan of tiredness, his arms fall to the side. He feels something or rather someone next to him.

"Shit Helena you have to leave" whispers Joseph
"Mmmmm no let me stay for a little longer"
"No you have to go"

"Joseph who are you talking to"
"Uh no one I'm talking to you mom— okay you seriously have to go"
"Fine, when am I going to meet your mother it's been 2 months already" the girl looks at a stressed out Descamps,he was rummaging through the pile of clothes both teenagers left last night.
"Soon but not now"

Joseph starts to throw Helena's clothes at her and opens the window while putting his shirt on

"I'll see you soon right" Helena questions
"Yes yes just go" he holds her hand while she steps out of the room.

The girl climbs down the window Joseph makes sure she is out of the back yard and closing the gate. He runs to the door were his mother is waiting.

"Hey"
"Good morning Angel I'm surprised you're up so early" Helen walks in and starts picking up dirty clothes off of Joseph's floor.
"I'm a early bird now I guess"
"I guess you are since when do you open your windows" Descamps mouth went dry and cursed himself in his head
"I um —just wanted to let the fresh air in" he scratches the back of his neck hoping his mother falls for his lies
"Alright then, have you heard the news?" Asked Helen
"No what news" he felt relief but was curious
His mother goes to his desk and turns on the radio for him and walks out closing his door.

"Good morning people of France we have big news to tell. It is confirmed that Lycee Voltaire High School is going to be the first MIXED school in France can you believe that Frank"
"No I can not Frances, the world is changing and we are getting the taste of that for the first time. Now in other countries this is normal but what do you think we have some mixed feelings about this new rule."
"I believe it's a wonderful idea for the girls—

Joseph turns the radio sound off he actually can't believe that they are allowing girls in school.
"Shit" he whispered
"Shit ended my friend"

Joseph snaps his head towards the door. He's still in his underwear and a half button up white shirt. His friend Jean looked at him up and down he laughed at the state of his best friend.

"How did you get in here"
"Your mom let me in,I didn't know you were still IN Helena. I saw her walking out"
"You're very funny Dupin" Descamps rolls his eyes
"So I guess you heard, about the girls"
"It's crazy why couldn't they waited until we graduated"
"Don't tell me you're not excited,oh come on did Pichons sister cast a spell on you or what. Is Joseph Descamps finally in love"
"Shut up Dupin,no and no. Helena is just someone that I can  you know call and get something out of her"
"Don't let Pichón hear you brother"
"What is he going to do set on me" joked Descamps

Both boys laughed. As Descamps got ready Dupin looked around, next to the radio was a bunch of old pictures, plants, dirty dishes the usual. But one picture caught his attention specifically. He picked it up and couldn't help but smile.

"Do you ever wonder where's she's at"
Dupin raises the picture frame to show Descamps . When he noticed what picture Dupin was talking about his stomach felt like it rearranged. It was a picture of Elise in the middle Descamps to her left and Dupin on her right and Vergoux in the middle bending down.

"Sometimes" Descamps answers dryly
"Do you remember this day? It was Christmas Eve we spent the whole day together. Remember we tried to bake cookies but SOMEONE put the oven up to high and we nearly burned the house down" Dupin laughed
"Your mom was so mad at you"
"Ya I remember"
"Did she ever send letters back to you?"
"No last time I got one was in 6th grade never heard from her since" Descamps hated talking about Elise he always tried to ignore or make up an excuse to not talk about her.
