It was a tradition they told him. It was going on for many many generations they said. The oldest child of the Sawamura clan to marry the youngest of the Kageyama clan.

After many generations the clans that used to be huge diminished to small families, but the elders were too stubborn to let their tradition go.

After Tobio's birth, his mother died and soon followed his father.

He and his sister were put in the care of their grandparents.

The elders of the Sawamura clan understood they were the last living Kageyama of this generation. So they decided to marry their oldest child Daichi, who himself was only a couple of years old, and Tobio who was still a baby.

The gender didn't matter they say, it's the tradition that's important.

From an early age, they were together, they were practically raised together.

It was to ensure that they were acquainted with each other.

When both of them were old enough to understand they were told that they were to be married in the future no matter what.

Daichi being the older was reminded that he must always care for Tobio. Which he did happily. He loved him the moment he set eyes on him, the second he was told that he would marry Tobio he swore to protect the other.

Tobio liked the other, loved him even but there was always a lingering doubt. He didn't agree to the marriage, he felt as if he was forced into it, never given the freedom to choose.

He loved Daichi in every way possible. He tried so hard to hate him but failed every time. He tried to push the other away with a scowl or a mean and cold demeanour but it was as if the other saw through the act and would never dislike him at all.

They loved each other. One loved the idea of their marriage, while the other disapproved.

Tobio was the reason that Daichi got into volleyball and he enjoyed playing it so he continued.

Except for their close relatives no one knew about the marriage, because Daichi didn't want Kageyama to be uncomfortable.

They were sent to different middle schools because the elders believed they shouldn't be too close in the wrong way.

Things were going fine until the second year of middle school for Tobio. His grandfather died and his sister had to leave Miyagi for university.

Daichi was his only family left. The boy cried himself to sleep at nights in his lover's arms.

Daichi's parents suggested that he should stay with the younger at his house. To which he gladly accepted. So they moved in together in the Kageyama household.

They were happy living together, waking up to each other every day.

It was Kageyama's third year when he started pushing harder, him and his team. Daichi tried to get him to not overwork himself but to vain.

Daichi had gone to see Tobio's final match in the middle school. It wasn't going good. His sets were too fast for anyone to hit. He kept scolding his team for making mistakes. Daichi was anxious and the worst that could happen happened.

His team didn't even try to spike his set they just stood there while he stared at them as the ball rolled out of the court.

Daichi snapped"Hey" he shouted, his voice echoing through the stadium. Kageyama looked at him with wide eyes and in horror. He had never seen the other this angry.

He was benched, when he sat there he didn't know what he was sadder about disappointing his team or Daichi.

Their team lost obviously and Kageyama walked out of the gym. He shuddered when he saw Daichi waiting for him.
