A startled sigh wakes Daniel Smith once again in the middle of the night. For a few seconds he is slightly frozen and can't do anything other than roll his eyes, scanning the room around to make sure he's okay. His vision quickly adapts to the dark and he feels around the bed looking for his phone to check the time. 3:16am "Again". He wets his throat with his own saliva and then sighs, resting both hands crossed on his chest. And he starts to think. And to remember. Shy tears well up in his blue eyes, making them burn with memories that now seem useless. He passes his hand over his eyes and leans over to turn on the lamp that is slightly above his head and on the right-hand side of the headboard. On his left side, at his feet, an adult Saint Bernard named Everett snores peacefully without even noticing another night when his owner returns from his recurring nightmare. He watches the giant animal deep in its own doggy dream world, and probably chasing some innocent squirrel, and manages to calm down a little.
As always happens on the nights that Daniel has this nightmare at 3:16 in the morning, he can no longer sleep and always starts his day doing his usual activities much earlier; He puts on his black flannel shorts and hood, hat, puts on a pair of trainers and goes out for a run late at night through the streets of the city of Diss. Usually, when he's awake, he usually takes Everett with him, but this time he preferred to give the nearly eighty-kilo lazy man a chance to sleep and go alone.
