The Mighty House Targaryen was already on its last limb. From king to king, hand to hand, heir to heir.

It was always the same, nothing different. Until there was something different.

King Daeron was a spiteful king. His madness turned the realm on its axis after a while. He married the mad queen, Queen Aelora.

Nobody knew the true story between these two, the only thing the realm knew was that they were siblings per Valyrian tradition, and that after a while the queen turned into madness as did her husband, Daeron.

The realm wondered, "Was it because of her infertility?" or maybe "The Kings infidelity?" how can a woman over a time span of a year into her marriage turn into such an unrecognizable person?

It happens. More than it should.

There was some ounce of joy brought into Aelora's life. She finally had a son after 5 years of trying. His name was Prince Jaehaerys of House Targaryen.

Daeron, of course, didn't just want one son. He wanted more, and so Aelora tried to do just that for him. Stillborn after stillborn, Aelora's body grew to become immune to the pain of loosing a child. Until, she was able to give him another a child.

A Girl.

*Maeleys POV*

Pain was something us women were immune to. Including humiliation. It sucked not being able to speak for yourself because men would always speak for you. How worse can it get I wonder..?

The door of  my room opened, a streak of light peaked through. I loved being in the dark, even if the light wanted to break through to me. It was the peace that the darkness had that made me love it.

"Princess." the servant bowed. She goes over and opens my curtains wide open.

"No! please don't do that!" I insisted.

"Im sorry Princess, but her grace, The Queen Aelora insisted that you no longer sit in the dark. She wants you to get ready for knitting lessons."

"Knitting lessons!? I took at least 6 of those lessons last week..?" I questioned my mother's decisions. I have always stayed on top of my studies. I wonder if  I missed a lesson? Its unlikely. I'm always ahead of everything.

"Yes Princess, you did. But the Queen wants you to take more lessons today instead of staying in your room for hours." the servant walked to where I was, then she took the linings off of me.

"You know? I could've did that myself." I sighed.

"Yes you could have,  but would you have actually did it in time?" the servant raised an eyebrow.

"Probably not, Cyrelle ." Maeleys laughed.

Nobody was really able to make me laugh, except Cyrelle, my favorite servant. Cyrelle and I grew up together. Yes, one of us grew up poorer than the other, but that never stood in between our undoubted friendship. Actually, nothing did. We were thick as thieves.

As Cyrelle helped me get dressed and ready, I dreaded walking out those doors. It was hard for me. Knowing everyone was against me, and would never support me like they do my older brother, Jaehaerys.

Oh.. Jaehaerys.

"Thank you Cyrelle." I turned to her and held her hand

"Oh! Don't worry Maeleys. I'll always have your back."
