Genesis 15:4-6 ESV
And behold, the word of the LORD came to him: "This man shall not be your heir; your very own son shall be your heir." [5] And he brought him outside and said, "Look toward heaven, and number the stars, if you are able to number them." Then he said to him, "So shall your offspring be." [6] And he believed the LORD, and he counted it to him as righteousness.
Reflection
In Genesis 15:4-6, we witness a profound moment of faith and promise. God assures Abram that his heir will be his very own son, not another. God then takes Abram outside and shows him the stars, declaring that his offspring will be as numerous as the stars in the sky. Abram's belief in God's promise is counted to him as righteousness, marking a pivotal moment in his relationship with God.
This passage highlights the power of faith and the transformative effect of believing in God's Word. Abram's journey of faith begins with a promise that seems impossible by human standards. Despite his old age and his wife Sarai's barrenness, Abram chooses to trust in God's promise. His faith is not merely an intellectual assent but a deep, abiding trust in the faithfulness of God.
Abram's belief is a model for us as Christians. It demonstrates that righteousness is not about our works but about our faith in God's promises. When we trust in God's Word and His promises, we align ourselves with His will and purpose. This alignment is what God counts as righteousness.

God's Character
God is faithful and true to His promises. He desires a relationship with us based on trust and faith. His promises are sure, and He rewards those who believe in Him with righteousness and blessings.
God's Promises
God promises to fulfill His Word to those who believe in Him. He assured Abram of a vast lineage, and He assures us of His faithfulness and blessings when we trust in Him. His promises are not limited by human constraints but are boundless and eternal.
Life Application
We are called to trust in God's promises, even when they seem impossible by human standards. Our faith should lead us to live in accordance with His Word, demonstrating our belief through our actions. By doing so, we align ourselves with God's righteousness and become a testament to His faithfulness.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, help us to trust in Your promises and to believe in Your Word wholeheartedly. Strengthen our faith so that we may live out Your will in our daily lives. Let our belief in You be evident in our actions, and may we reflect Your righteousness to the world. In Jesus' name, Amen.
