The ground team prepared themselves for what could come as they rode in the back of the vehicle. Mel decided to break the silence, at least she's trying.

Mel: How are you two sleeping these days?

Abby: Not great.

The sad thing about revenge is that it doesn't make your problems go away. It can help with coping, but not much else. It's quite sad.

Y/N: I actually had a good dream the last I slept. Normally I am plagued with nightmares whenever sleep does come.

Mel, being the good doctor she is, offered a prescription to help with the lack of sleep and nightmares.

Mel: Do you two want something from the pharmacy? I can get some melatonin and Fluvoxamine.

Abby: Nah. I'm good.

Y/N's radio went off with a panicked voice. What was said made his blood run cold.

Y/N's radio: Deathstroke! Jack is here! I repeat! Jack the Ripper has been spotted!

Everyone in the vehicle, including Manny who was driving, went silent. This shouldn't be.

Jack is alive. . .

Y/N spoken into his radio, his voice was filled with urgency and anger.

Y/N: If the opportunity reveals itself, shoot to kill. We are not taking him in alive. Is that understood?!

Y/N's radio: Yes, sir!

Y/N looked at Mel. Her breath had picked up when she heard the name Jack. Abby had to remind her not to hyperventilate.

Y/N: It's okay, Mel. The lunatic has probably lost his edge by now. . . all that time he spent getting cozy with Ellie Williams. My men should be able to handle him.

Mel: And if they can't?

Y/N: I'll take care of him if they are incapable of doing so.

They sat in silence for a bit, and they soon calmed down, believing that Jack had a high possibility of perishing. It is one man against an army after all.

Abby: I should be able to sleep after all this. I've picked up some extra assignments.

Mel:. . . . With Owen?

Y/N slowly turned his head to look at Abby.

Abby: What do you mean?

Mel: Nothing. . .

Y/N let his jealousy get the better of him, and he let slip a rather demanding question.

Y/N: You put your name down for assignments with Owen?

Abby scoffed.

Abby: I don't understand what the big deal is. Owen and I are done, this shouldn't matter.

Silence followed the statement, no one felt the need to push any further, or at least that's what it seemed. Y/N wanted to keep questioning, but he didn't want to make Abby upset, so he didn't.

The vehicle reached the checkpoint where WLF personnel questioned Manny as to where they were heading. Manny replied that they were heading to section two.
They let him through the gate and he continued to drive.

Y/N chambered a round in his main gun.

He did this for one reason only. He saw the glint of a scope aimed directly at him.

Y/N: BRACE!!!

The Scars opened fire on the vehicle.
As soon as they did, the barbarians rode in on horses, all while firing their guns.

Y/N: Mel, keep low! Abby, suppress fire!

Y/N set his gun to burst fire and started pulling the trigger. Both he and Abby killed a few Scars with little to okay accuracy as it was very difficult to aim with the vehicle running like this. Manny had to make a hard left with the vehicle as they met a dead end with Scar marksmen posted there.

It was a fast and violent escalation, and the horror has only begun.

Unfortunately for the team, someone wearing a mask threw a Molotov cocktail onto the hood of the vehicle, causing Manny to swerve off-road.

The vehicle crashed into an abandoned building. Fortunately everyone was okay with minor cuts and bruises.

Y/N immediately checked up on Mel and Abby. Abby was okay, and Mel was too along with her baby as evidenced by the lack of pain in her womb.

Manny: We're too exposed.

Y/N: Distance to the FOB?

Mel: It's a hike.

The group entered the abandoned building and went to make sure that it was secure.

Y/N gently sat down his gun on the ground and went to chamber a round in his sidearm.

Abby: All that cool equipment and you still have that basic ass pistol.

Y/N knew she was joking, but the pistol was a touchy subject for him. It belonged to an old friend.

Y/N: I might upgrade it. Or I might not. I haven't decided.

The group made their way into what appeared to be a warehouse. This place used to be a Walmart. There were Halloween decorations on many shelves.

Y/N walked over to the sporting goods section and picked up a wooden baseball bat. He gained an idea. He took a rusted axe that was also in the sporting section, propped up the bat and hacked into it from the top down, causing a four inch split. He then grabbed a sharp shard of metal that was on the ground and tied it to the bat using wire.

Y/N brought it over to Abby and held it out for her to take. Abby took the bat and gave a sincere thank you.

Abby: It's not as good as a sword, but it will still rip and tear.

Y/N: You'll need it. There are too many places to hide in here.

As if on que, the sound of infected became clear, so the group crouched and moved slowly. Y/N whispered.

Y/N: Manny, protect Mel. Abby and I will handle the infected.

Manny nodded and stay close to Mel.

Abby put a runner into a choke hold, and didn't stop until it died. Y/N drew his sword and plunged it through the back of the neck, severing the spine. He laid down the runner gently so no noise would be made.

The group moved quietly and effectively, and took out the infected one by one. When it came down to the last runner, Y/N wasted no time. He decapitated the infected and watched as its body dropped to the ground, wiping the blood off his sword sword and sheathing it on his back.

Y/N: Poor fuckers.
