Freya's pov:
By the time I arrived at the classroom it was already bustling with students. I sat down on my usual seat
in the back to escape the social flurry and pulled my favorite book out of my bag. I reached into my bag again to get my notebook out when suddenly Tara walked into the classroom with a confident voice. „Hey everyone!" she said as she walked over to her friends. They are the most popular people in this school. And the loudest. So the complete opposite of me. No one would even dare to say something against them. The whole school has their back. As I was about to continue reading the teacher, Mrs. Thompson, walked in. „Hello students! Today we'll start with a partner project," Everyone looked at their best friend. Except me. I already accepted that no one wants to work with me. „but I decide who you'll work with. When I call your name out you can already start working. The task is written on the black board. Okay, first pair...Tara and..." Everyone looked up, excited. Everyone wants to work with her. „...and Freya." My eyes widened. What? No, this can't be... As I looked in her direction I saw her already walking towards me. Shit. „Hey there. Can I sit here?" She pointed at the seat my bag was placed at. „Oh...yeah, sure." I put my bag on the ground and she immediately sat down on the chair next to me. I could practically feel her confidence in the air. And she stared at me...she probably thinks of what a loser I am.Tara's pov:
I couldn't help but stare at her. She was always alone, her nose buried in a book. I've seen her only a few times in class but now that I've got a closer look at her...wow. This shyness in her eyes had somethingcaptivating and i couldn't look away. The way her fingers danced nervously along the edge of her notebook, the way she tucked her hair behind her ear and the way she avoided my gaze was just perfect. „What are you reading?" i asked her casually. „Just a classic novel." Freya's voice was soft, barely above a whisper. „It's about a young woman finding herself falling in love." I chuckled. „Sounds romantic." I teased, resting my chin on my hand as i shamelessly checked her out. I slowly leaned closer. „And did you have a love life like that?"
She looked at me for a moment. „No, I'm not really good with people...." she confessed. I felt a pang of sympathy for her, knowing it could be hard as a outsider. „I get that." i replied, my own voice getting softer. „Sometimes the pages of a book can offer more comfort and happiness than any human could." She looked surprised at me. I could tell she wasn't expecting me to understand her, to truly get what it feels like to be an outsider. And for a second i could swear i saw a little smile tugging at the corner of her lips. „Well...how about we start with the project?" she asked me. As i nodded she started to write something down and i thought about a way to get her to come out of that shell she is in. „Hey...can i ask you something?" i asked her and continued as she nods. „Don't you get lonely sometimes?" Freya fidgeted, her fingers tapping anxiously against her notebook.
„Sometimes...but it's better that way. No complications and...no messy feelings." i opened my mouth to answer her but then the bell rang. Everyone stood up, the chairs scrapping against the floor. But in that moment Freya and i stayed seated. Then i reached out and placed my hand on her arm.
„Maybe you don't have to be lonely all the time."
