Fabiano throws one of the biggest parties every year, and I don't go, but that will change. It's not like I can ask my father or mother to go, so the logical solution is to sneak out. Even better for me, the party is on the day my father meets with the guards, so I would only have one guard watching me.
As I lay in bed, my mother came into my room. "Milena, there is dinner on the table," she said and left. As I leave my bed, I open my door just slightly, seeing Carlos looking bored out of his mind when he looks down at his phone. He must've seen the time he leaves for his smoko break. I take that as my chance to go, knowing my mother is probably on her second bottle of wine in the theatre room.
I stood in front of the mirror, straightening my hair and taking one last look at my outfit. I had chosen a chic black dress that made me feel confident, paired with a lovely gold necklace and heels that clicked with each step I took.
As I'm walking to the gate, someone grabs my arm as I turn to face them. "And you are?" he said. How can I be so stupid as to forget about the guards at the gate? Hang on, he sounded new, too new "Let me go of me," I say roughly. "Do you not know who you are talking to? Wait until I tell my husband," I spat out. His face pales. "Let me out now", I say bitterly. So that you know, he goes to the panel and opens the gate. I turn to him.
"Could you be a doll and fetch a car?" I told him, "But Mrs Alirio, there's no one to drive you," I thought for a second until I said, "You can drive me and get Carlos to fill your position while you drive me."
I wait until the guard gets the car, then I get in and say, "Go to this address." I point to the maps, and he just nods and drives.
As we arrive at the destination, I get out of the car, but before I close it, " When do you want me to pick you up, Mrs.," he says. When I text you, I close the door. As he leaves, I go to Fabiano's front house door. I open it
Excitement and nerves bubbled inside me as I made my way to the party venue. I couldn't help but be thrilled about doing something reckless.
Arriving at the party, I was immediately enveloped in the pulsating beat of the music. The room was alive with laughter and movement, and people enjoying the moment and embracing. I navigated through the crowd and exchanged a smile when I saw Fabiano. "Milena, is that you?" Fabiano said I could tell he had drunk way too much. I turned to see a girl with a warm smile approaching me. "Hi, I'm Lucia," she said, extending her hand.
"Nice to meet you, Lucia," I say, returning her smile. We started a conversation, and I learned Lucia's last name was Bianchi. "If my father found out I was friending a Bianchi, he would kill me with no hesitation," I say, laughing. "Hey, maybe they will put us next to each other when they kill us," she said while laughing.
As the night went on, Lucia and I were engrossed in conversation. It felt like we had known each other for much longer. We laughed together, shared stories, and even danced side by side. Lucia and I will be best friends, and no one will stop us. "Give me your phone number," Lucia says. I hand her my phone while she puts her number on my phone.
As we head out, I see Remo arguing with Fabiano, and it looks like Fabiano is too drunk out of his mind. I see Lucia stop and turn her head, staring at Remo while Remo looks back at her, not listening to what Savio says. Savio is looking in his direction, seeing me and Lucia. Lucia turns back to me "fuck, run", she says, grabbing my hand.
I ran with her while looking back and seeing Remo chasing after us. As Lucia and I ran through our hearts pounding in our chests, I felt a rush of adrenaline coursing through my veins. In a chaotic scene, we sprinted through the dimly lit streets, our breath coming in quick gasps as we tried to distance ourselves from the looming figures chasing after us.
I could hear Savio's heavy footsteps gaining on me in the darkness. Panic gripped my chest as I realised he was closing in fast. I stole a glance over my shoulder and saw his determined expression. His eyes fixed on me with an intensity that sent shivers down my spine.
Lucia and I continued to run, our footsteps echoing off the empty streets. Savio's presence drew closer, his breath hot on my neck. Desperation fuelled my steps as I pushed myself to run faster, my heart racing with fear and uncertainty.
Suddenly, I felt a firm grip on my arm, and I was yanked back with a force that sent me stumbling to the ground. I turned to see Savio standing over me, his face contorted with anger and triumph. I struggled against his hold, but it was no use—he had caught me.
As I looked up, I saw Lucia disappearing into the darkness, her figure growing smaller and smaller as she tried to escape. I quickly grabbed her. I called out to her, warning her, but it was too late. He got her
"Savio", I breathed. I looked at him with pleading eyes. He put a knife at my throat as I closed my eyes. This isn't how I imagined dying. I could feel my heart racing out of my chest. "Fuck", I heard him mutter under his breath. The knife quickly knicks me just enough to draw blood. He is gone. I slowly fall to the concrete floor as I hold my throat as tears spill from my eyes. My heart rapidly beats out of my chest. I'm alive. I don't feel alive, though I get my phone out of my pocket and message my driver to pick me up with shaking hands.
We arrived at my house and tried to get out of the car. I see my father storming towards me. "Where the fuck have you been" he shouts as me he grabs my arm, leaving me out of the car, and then he slaps me. I can't help but have tears in my eyes. It's pathetic. "You wait and see what happens now," he says, looking at me. I'm not looking at him; I'm looking at the water fountain. "Get your daughter; I don't want to see her" As if I'm not his, my mother yanks my arm to get me to follow her, and I do. I follow her. My mother leads me to my room. As I step in, she steps out and closes my door, saying nothing to me like I'm a burden.
