Gwen stepped out of her room, rubbing her eyes sleepily. She was surprised to see Jonathan and Will already awake, standing by the table. Joyce was franticly searching for her keys, rummaging through drawers and bags. Fortunately, Bob, Joyce's boyfriend, emerged from the room with a victorious smile, keys in hand. "Aha, found them!" he exclaimed. "They were hiding in a pair of jeans."

Joyce, her face etched with relief, thanked Bob for finding her keys. She then turned to Jonathan and pleaded, "Can you take your siblings to school?" But Jonathan responded curtly, "he staying here now?" a hint of irritation in his voice."can you just take them?" joyce sighed,Bob interjected and offered, "I can take them." Joyce nodded in relief, grateful for Bob's offer. "Really? Can you make sure they get in okay?" she asked. Bob responded confidently, "Yeah, we'll have a great time." Gwen overheard the conversation and rolled her eyes before heading out the door, climbing into Bob's car. Gwen was seated quietly in the backseat while Will and Bob discussed a clown and Will's recent nightmare. Gwen glanced out the window, lost in thought, her gaze falling upon her wrist adorned with a friendship ring from Eleven. Almost a year had passed since Eleven disappeared, and Gwen still pondered her whereabouts.

As they reached the school, Gwen and Will got out of the car, with Bob driving off. As they walked towards the school doors, Will's water bottle suddenly rolled away, landing in the middle of the road. "I got it," Gwen exclaimed, jogging toward the bottle.Gwen held her arm up, signaling for the cars to stop, but the sound of a revving engine made her heart skip a beat. A blue camaro car zoomed past her, barely stopping in time. Gwen yelled fustrated, "What the hell! Watch where you're going, mullet head!" The driver, a blonde with a mullet responded by flipping the bird at her. The red-headed girl, who appeared to be around Gwen's age, hopped out of the car and quickly rushed over to Gwen, looking concerned. "I'm so sorry about him!" she said apologetically, helping Gwen to her feet. "It's okay, it's not your fault," Gwen responded,

The girl extended her hand for a handshake and introduced herself, her smile warm and friendly. "I'm Max, Max Mayfield," she said. Gwen reciprocated the gesture, shaking her hand, and replied with a smile of her own, "I'm Gwen Byers."
