I strolled towards Harold and Ronnie, who were standing near the stern of the boat.
A faint of light flashed in the night sky from the west, and I pointed. “Hey, was that lighting?”
Ronnie poured a pail of chum into the sea before he offered a smile.  "Nah, don’t think so."
"Hey that's our last bucket,” I said.
Ronnie set the pail down and wiped his hands on his tie-dyed board shorts.
"So how are you feeling today Jack, I mean from last night."
"I'm fine now thanks man."
"After you went to bed me and Harold slept a while but decided to do some fishing to calm the nerves. I mean everything is okay now as you can see.  It's four a.m. night fishing is over Harold. "
I let the fish have the rest of the bait. "
Harold rummaged through the colorful lures in his tackle box. "With all that chum floating in the water, maybe I'll catch myself a 100-pound tuna." he smiled.
Standing at the railing, I leaned over. Powerful deck lights above illuminated the blue water of the Pacific Ocean. I smiled as streaks of yellow and silver swarmed around the boat.
Harold nudges me with his elbow
"Isn’t tuna amazing? I just want to jump in and swim with them."
Yep. That's Harold for you-full of crazy ideas and too much he doesn't know what to do with.  Of course, he would want to jump in.  And I had no doubt he'd do it.
A roll of thunder rumbled I'm the distance.  A storm? No, couldn’t be.  I lifted my head. Nothing but twinkling stars filled the black velvet sky.
I grabbed Harold's arm as he swung his leg over the rail.
"Don't you even think about it!”
Harold jumped down placing his arms over the railing.
"Okay, fine.  I promise no free diving at least not until daylight. "
I arched a brow.  "Are you crazy?  I bet sharks all the way from Australia can pick up the scents from all those fish guts Ronnie just dumped.  You barely survived your last run in with Jaws. "
I pointed to the jagged scar on his calf
“Hey now.  My battle scars. "Harold toyed with the shark tooth dangling from a black cord around his neck"- and this nifty souvenir here, make me who I am today.  I just smiled and kept my mouth shut.
I started to ponder as I watched dark clouds roll in from the west side.  I could help but to think about what had happened earlier that night, the blue-ish light. Maybe it was nothing, but maybe it was something. The questions seemed all too confusing. My gaze dropped from the sky back to the clear ocean. Harold pointed the remote control at the CD stereo in the cockpit, increasing the volume.
"Guys, I little bit of music will he good don't you agree?”
I called back at Harold
"If you say so. I’m going to put away the fishing equipment for now, don't want to fall over it."
A booming noise cracked through the air. I cupped an ear to hear above the music. Was that thunder?  No.  That had to be a loud, thumping bass note.  The forecast hadn't mention rain for at least a couple of days. Ronnie pointed up at a light in the night sky.
"You guys!  Do you see it? It is the same light I saw earlier, I told you Jack it was real. "
I studied the light as it flashed blue and white at regular intervals.  It couldn't be a plane, because it would've already flown over us. "Is it a star...?  Or maybe...? "
Ronnie's gaze swung back between me and the horizon.
"I don't know.  I don't know what the hell is going on here but it's freaking me out.
"Is it possible that it could be a UFO?  It almost looks like one.? “I said
"No way!”
"No?  What is it then? "
"I've no idea."
I took out my revolver, aimed at the light, and fired a shot.  The sound breaks the silence and, in that split, second took off as if it knew I was aiming at it.
Strong gust of wind rocked the boat.  My balance wavered and I grabbed hold on the railing.
"Whoa. It is getting a little choppy out here; I think it is going to rain.
Overhead, a brilliant burst of light ripped across the sky, and suddenly the sky was lid up with more of those "lights"
Thunder crashed. My pulse spiked as I looked at Ronnie.  His forehead creased in a worry frown, and foe a moment, I knew exactly what he thought; No way do we want to be on a boat in the middle of the ocean with a storm gathering and flying lights above our heads.
We sprinted to the bow where Harold waited.
Dazzling streaks of lightning crisscrossed the night sky, quickly followed by a howling wind.  My breath quickened. Lifting my hands, I felt droplets on my skin. I swallowed as I tried to calm my nerves.
'Could this be it...Could I've come so far just to die...? '
