A few hours has passed since the tragic event that took Harold and Ronnie’s lives. The night was quiet; only the sound of waves could be heard crashing ashore and against the rocks.
I was just about to close my eyes to get some sleep when suddenly a loud thumping sound came from the storage compartment. The ship had a twenty by twenty feet storage compartment near the back. The compartment contained a few empty ammo crates, emergency batteries, flashlights, army fatigues and a few personal locker spaces.
“I think something just dropped,” said Joe.
“Its probably nothing, but I’ll go check it out.” I made my way to the storage compartment in the back, pulled the metal door open, and looked around the compartment. There was nothing out of the ordinary nor anything else on the ground. I opened the lockers and saw nothing unusual.
I went out, kicked the door shut and walked back. At four steps passed the door, I heard another thumping sound, identical to the last. I turned around, yanked the door open, and looked inside.
That face!
“Fuck me!” I cried in sheer horror. The Sky-watcher stood there, towering over me, glaring downwards. My body froze in fear. The first thing I notice, is the crystals, glowing brightly in my face. It was up close and personal. I reached back and slammed my hand on the intercom button
“Joe! It’s here, help.” I yelled. Under normal circumstances, the intercom would have turned on. But something interfered with the com. That something was the electromagnetic interference from the Sky-watcher.
“Joe!” The com against the wall did not work. The sound field didn’t work. I twist around, and tried to make a run for it back to Joe. It was too late. I felt a strong warm hand clutching tightly on my left shoulder. I slowly turned around to face it. That faceless head was the most haunted thing that I have ever seen. My body quivered with fear. I struggled to free myself from the unbelievably tight hold. The Sky-watcher, slowly, very slowly, starts pulling me closer to his gigantic chest. Sweat started beating down my face, as we stood like slow-dancing partners. The Sky-watcher had no odor. However, that glowing head. My eyes filled with tears. The heat became unbearable.
“Just kill me,” I begged tearfully. For a brief moment, all I could hear was the sound of the ocean slamming softly against the shore and a sizzling sound from its arm. The Sky-watcher slowly moved it’s right hand towards my stomach. As the hand got closer, it began to glow. Transparent electrical pulses sparked from its elbow to its fingers. Every other part of its body remained the same. Nearly paralyzed with fear, I managed to stare down at my stomach.
“Just kill me.” In that moment, all I could think about was dying. I wildly shook my shoulders side to side in an attempt to break free. The left grip was incredibly tight.
“Kill me,” I begged, wanting my life to end without pain. I was sweating profusely. The hand finally touched. I felt a warm tingling sensation in my mid section caused by the heat from its hand. I stared at my stomach in sheer horror as sweat beads dribbled down my forehead. A few drops of sweat found its way to its electrical forearm, which fizzled with a thin cloud of smoke. Every part of the Sky-watcher was still the same, only the elbow to the fingers glowed. Its four shiny fingers twiddled slightly as it inched closer, sizzling with electrical sparks.
The hand slowly inched across my stomach. The heat was intense. The being moved his hand across my body, up the chin, then down to my stomach. The ominous face gazing, methodically studying me as if I was some kind of lab rat. The glowing hand finally rested on my chest, poking it with one finger. It started there for a few seconds while I dropped with sweat and a quivering body. My heart pounded harder with every passing second. It felt like my heart was going to explode in my chest. I closed my eyes momentarily and started to pray.
In one swift motion, a loud bang came echoed through the room. Seconds later, I felt the grip of the being loosening, dropping me to the ground. I peered up and saw Joe standing there with the .38 in his hand.
“Jack! Are you okay?” he asked frightened, rushing towards me to help me up.
“Yeah, I think so,” I replied
“Come on Jack if we go now we can maybe catch up with him. I think I’ve injured him, take a look.” Said Joe pointing to the blue-ish splattered puddles on the ground.
“But how?” I asked cocking a brow, “Earlier when I tried to kill one, the bullets were absorbed into its body.”
“I think it’s because I’ve shot him through the side of his head. Now come on. Maybe we can still kill this thing.”
We followed the splattered trails, from within the ship until outside, and then continuing the trail all the way between the wrecked ships.
“Over here!” said Joe
I turned right and saw Joe inspecting the trail that ended at a medium sized cruise liner. I gazed at the sight, and then glanced suspiciously around the liner to see if anyone is still around. That is odd, I thought.
“What’s this doing here? I haven’t seen this the last time I was here.” I said, still staring at the ship.
“Probably fresh new victims,” he responded. “We have to go check it out. The trail ends here; if we hurry we can still track down that thing.”
“About earlier, don’t you think it’s odd that some part of the ship have power?” I asked, “ I mean don’t you think that this might be connected to the crystals and the Sky-watcher? In that moment when he grabbed me I saw some sort of electricity flowing inside his arm.”
“it could be, I find it strange. But there is no time to think about that. We have to kill that thing.”
We climbed aboard the liner from the side, and started making our way through the hallway.
“The beings have the ability to turn invisible, so we must be extra cautious,” said Joe.
“Understood,” I said, looking around the hallway. Strange, there was still no one around. I surveyed the white decorated hallway and felt cold, then started walking down the long hallway. The hallway ended and split into two turns. A sign ahead was marked LOBBY with an arrow pointing to the right. I followed the arrow and eased around the corner. I stopped with one foot in mid-air. My jaw dropped and my face lit up. I glared at Joe, and noticed Joe was in shock.
Words failed us.
Ten meters in front were three dead bodies sprawling on the carpet floor. They laid in pools of blood. The arms of each victim were spread eagle-like on the floor with their eyes still open, looking at the ceiling. One body; curled in a crude L with cracked bones protruding from the ribs, legs, and arms. Blood still trickling from the bodies. Behind the three bodies, laid a broken in half round table, with a deck of cards strewn wildly on the floor. Not too far ahead on the left, the elevator door leading to the second floor was smeared with blood.
Joe began walking backwards. I snatched his arm, pulling him back.
“We need to focus and keep our head together,” I said silently to Joe. I stepped over one of the bodies and peeked inside the office. It was a wild mess with another body slouched over a chair beside the desk. It was a male. I pulled the .38 from my hip, and then beckoned Joe to come with a wave of a hand. Joe cupped his mouth with a palm and walked to me. A puddle of blood was beneath his feet.
“I think we better go,” I whispered looking around the office. I glanced at the walls and doors, which were smeared with blood. I gulped in fear. I can’t stop looking at the dead bodies. It was like a train wreck. I didn’t want to look, but curiosity got the better of me. I carefully stepped over the second body. I the stopped, suspiciously glanced around, and hopped over a puddle of blood. I then went around the third body. Joe followed my example.
“Where do we go from here?” Joe whispered.
I stopped and glanced over his shoulder. “I think we should go take a look upstairs.”
I then pointed the .38 behind him and whispered as though a serial killer was standing down the hallway, “Don’t move. There are two Sky-watchers behind you. Stay still, I need a clean shot.”
