Prophesies

When second class comes around, I whisper to other witches, asking if they know about the scarlet witch. The majority respond with death glares and insults, calling names, and threatening to have me exiled for talking.

The last person I decide to ask, seems to have been a good choice, shes a witch too, but she isn't a part of a coven, she speaks freely of myth and legends.

"I'm looking for a book... it's a prophecy of sorts, about the Scarlet Witch, it's supposed to have all of what will, and has happened regarding her... but I feel something is wrong, the timelines I've found otherwise are all off by four years"

She looks at me, "I know where you can find it." She pulls me into the hallway, claiming she feels ill, and needs help. She tells me where to find the book, she calls it the Scarlet Prophecy, she tells me the name, the library to find it in, and even the book number and shelf.

I pull out my journal and start writing it down, repeating it as I go, "okay, so it's called the Scarlet Prophecy, it's in the Westview library...as  in Westview, New Jersey?" I look up for confirmation, she nods. "And it's in the old unused basement, the shelf at the back, in the right corner, top shelf?" I look at her for confirmation.

"Yes, but don't tell another soul, if they find it first, people may die." she gives me a stern look, I nod my head.

"I understand... my hands only." I repeat, a nervous look on my face "How do you know of it? And why are you telling me?" I ask, shocked at how quickly I got the information from her

"I am not governed by a coven. I'm a lone witch, none of my family are either, I learn on my own terms," she continues explaining. "It's not often you find another Verdant power wielder." She shows me her power, green aura dancing in her hands. "I was not born this way, simply created to give you a message." Suddenly, she stops, her eyes go back to normal, and she walks back into the classroom like nothing ever happened.

"Hey! wait you didn't tell me-" I tilt my head in confusion, watching her act as if she was never even a witch at all.

"Okay then..."

---

I decided to skip my classes after lunch, flying to Westview instead. I hover over, looking for the library, and flying in. I notice people seem afraid, I can sense their fear. I know what the Scarlet Witch did here, but I had no idea they would remain so afraid of us.

I pull my hood up, walking into the library, speaking to the librarian.

"Is the basement section still open? I need-" I get cut off by the librarian.

"I don't care, and if you find anything you like, you can keep it. Those books are all dusty and torn anyways. Hell take the shelf too, less work for me." the librarian shrugs, swinging his chair back around, and typing away. I understand why they are all afraid, but I wish they wouldn't be, they don't need to be.

"Alright," I walk towards the back shelf, "top shelf, far right, should be it-" I grab the leather clad book, swirling with Chaos Energy. I take it out, thanking the librarian and flying home, taking in the sights as I fly.

---

I go straight to the magic library, asking the librarian about the green magic book I had seen, he points me towards it, but speaks before I can even turn away.

"No witch has been able to get it off that shelf since this library was built, Verdant power ceased to exist-"

I cut him off, using my powers to pull the book right off the shelf. "yeah? well I guess I'm a special case." I walk over to him, asking, "you said they ceased to exist? So then why do I?"

He shrugs, "getting late, you should go home kid." I roll my eyes, "I'm seventeen, I can handle my own."

As I walk out, I whisper under my breath.

"That was way  too easy, I've gotta watch my back."

---

When I get home, I slip into my room unnoticed, keeping the books out of sight. I open the green one, on the first page, theres nothing. I swipe my hand over it, and everything is uncovered, all the secrets, all the prophecies, the Verdant Witch .

I read all night, and I realise what it all means, the runes depict a witch, born only to be the saviour of the once evil Scarlet Witch, and specifically the one who can destroy the Darkhold.

The Book of the Damned.

I open the matching red book, managing to get some of the runes through, but the others appear to be gone. Almost as if what was supposed to happen, didn't... or at the wrong time.

I realise what I need to do, I need to be the one to bring her back, the Scarlet Witch, needs to come home...

---

I go downstairs, telling my mother its time for me to go to bed, I hug her, but she grabs my hands, cuffing me with her magic, and dragging me into the streets, throwing me up on a spire, one surrounded by the entire cover, even the men.

"I'm sorry daughter, it had to be done. We have been keeping a close eye on you, you are too dangerous. we must remove you of your magic, you will not be permitted to hurt anyone, ever."

I struggle, squirming and writhing, attempting to get away.

"Please! You don't understand! I need to do this!"

"I'm afraid that's what every dark witch says. we learned better after what Agatha pulled right here in Salem over three hundred years ago" she looks me in the eye, "I'm so sorry..."

The witches and wizards gather around me, they chant spells of death, spells to take magic from the unworthy, trying to draw my energy out, but I keep holding on.

The power of dozens of other magical beings swirls around me, my mind going hazy. I feel the pull, but my magic is of no use to others so it wont separate from my soul, almost as if its tied to me. I try my hardest to give up, but the grasp it has on me is so strong that i cant even let go by choice. let alone accidentally.

my mother drags me from the spire, and drags me away to an empty building, witches gather around it as if they are protecting the outside from what's inside.

Me.

"Mother! Please! I have a duty I can't just sit here and do nothing!" I struggle to free myself from her, to no avail. i squeak out one more time.

"Please..." my voice a failing whisper.

Darkness.
