I woke up in a pretty small room. Like my previous apartment. I lay on a comfortable bed though and my head was hurting like crazy.

I sat up and looked around. The room was a cream colour and at the bed stand I could see my phone charging, next to it a book that looked like a journal. I felt like throwing up but It wasn't the time, I needed to figure out where I was. The walls were bare so no hint there. The picture on the nightstand was of a pretty rainforest. I looked to my right to see a door, probably leading to the bathroom or something.

I stood up carefully and walked to it. As soon as I opened it I knew who lived here. It smelled so much like Kenzie. I walked to the sink and tried to drink with my hands. My mouth was dry. Just then the bathroom door opened and through the mirror I could tell it was Kenzie.

"Hey." She spoke. I turned to her.

"Hey goodmorning." My voice was still hoarse. She slightly smiled.

"Its good you woke up finally, cause Mr Donald said if you don't wake up, we take you to hospital." She said.

"Wait, how long have I been out for?" She looked around the room for a while and sighed.

"A week." She said. At first I was shocked then suddenly it hit me.

"The interview!" I shrieked.

"What?" She seemed confused.

"I had an interview...At some company Kenz..." I became frantic but she held my hand and sighed.

"Its 6:40 am Jake, am sure you have enough time to get ready." She said. I nodded thats right. I did. But I had not washed the black shirt meant for the interview today. She seemed to read my mind because she added.

"Donald paid your laundry bill, your clothes are folded in my closet." She said and it was only then that I realized I was only in my boxers. I blushed a dark shade of red but she held my shoulder.

"Don't worry, you aint my type." She said and walked out of the bathroom. I followed after.

"So Jake...." She turned to me. I knew questions were upcoming when she said that. I nodded for her to continue.

She took some packed underwear from her closet. I looked at her questioningly.

"I bought them for my brother but he wont be here till winter, I can buy more...you need to get ready for the interview. I nodded and thanked her.

" You seemed to know the bride." Her voice was accusing. I held my breathe.

"Yeah, we used to know each other." It wasnt entirely a lie.

"She kinda looked like you." She observed. She was smarter than I thought.

"Just cause am gay doesn't make me feminine Kenz." I scoffed. Her eyes widened and I knew I had won. To avoid questions fake offence. Kenzie always backs off if she feels she has offended you.

"No...I...I didn't...am gonna make breakfast." She hurriedly said and left the room. I chuckled to myself. Man was I glad she was my friend. I unplugged my phone and unlocked it. I had a few texts from Mike and some from my boss at the bar asking if am alright. I respomded to him first. I told him I had a family emergency and was sorry I missed my shifts. He was Ok with it as long as I was
fine. At least I had people who cared in my life.

I entered the bathroom and quickly freshened up with the occasional headache and back and rib pain. I cursed when i brushed over a bruise forming on my ribs. If Kenzie saw the marks and bruises on my body, she didn't mention it. And I was grateful for that. After I was done, I wore the same clothes I wore on that wedding day again. At least they looked formal and presentable.

I went downstairs and took breakfast with Kenzie which was quiet. She wished me luck and I called a cab. She told me she didn't know where I stayed and that was why she brought me to her place since Mike lived with Clement, she felt it would be better to come here. I thanked her for that. I was really grateful. It reminded me of the times in highschool when my sister and hef clique cornered me after school, beat me up and ditched me at the side of the road and no one would help me till I gained enough energy eventually to walk back home just to be hurt more by my parents. It was new to have people who cared.

I told the cab driver where I was going and he gladly took me. Thank God Kenzie had my wallet too. I paid and looked up at the building I might start working in from that day onwards. People were getting in and out. I walked to the receptionist and she smiled at me. Again, I was not used to that.

"May I help you sir?" She asked. I nodded then I realized I didn't even know the person I was here to see.

"Uhmm...am here for the secretarial job?" I wasn't sure how to phrase it. She smiled and nodded. She dialed a number and was talking to someone at the other end before she nodded and hand up. She smiled once again.

She handed me a piece of paper.

"15th floor last door." She said. I thanked her and entered the elavator. It was only when I reached the 15th floor that I opened the piece of paper. Her number. She gave me her number. I smiled. At least she found me good looking. I entered the last door and an elderly lady welcomed me with the sweetest smile. My smile fell however when I saw who was beside her, currently talking to her. The man who saved me from my sister's groom.

Great! Just great!!
