Chapter 9:

** Sicily's POV**

I entered into the local Starbucks just up the street from my flat. Steadily walking to the line, I noticed a slight gaze upon me. “Today is just not my day.” I mumbled underneath my breath. The one person I despise most with a burning passion just had to be in the line next to me. Justin. Avoiding all eye contact, I pushed my way through the crowded line and sprinted outside. The one person I never wanted to come into contact with just happened to be at the same café as me. It felt as if my heart was about to leap out of my chest. I needed to hide until he left the building. I couldn’t figure out what was worse, staying here and risking Justin seeing me or going home to Zayn and my family.

After an agonizing fifteen minutes of waiting for him to leave the coffee shop I was finally able to return without making a scene. I ordered my usual iced caramel mocha and proceeded to the checkout. After I slipped the change into the black strapped bag hanging off my shoulder, the women at the cash register whispered a question into my ear.

"What happened?"

"What do you mean?" I said slightly confused

"I noticed you walk in and then randomly leave. You seemed a little distressed.”

“Oh I- it's nothing. “I said ducking my head. “Thank you." I whispered under my breath while grabbing my mocha and heading to the secluded table in the corner.

Facebook Messenger: Payton Robbins messaged you.

I couldn’t help but smile as the flashbacks of Miami came rushing back. Our old life, my childhood, my friends, Marcus. Everything was just so foreign to me.

Coming back to reality I proceeded to read Payton’s message.

“Hey girl!

I miss you like.... CRAZY. Come back please?! You have to tell me everything that is happening!!! Did you find a man? ;) MORE IMPORTANTLY DID YOU FIND ME A MAN?!”

I silently giggled at how little she had changed since I was gone. She was still that quirky girl I loved. Quickly my thumbs hovered over the screen of my phone. I really did miss her, and was dying without seeing her. My thumbs seemed to move over the smooth screen with no effort. It was as if they had a mind of their own.

“So much has happened in the last couple of days! It all started on the flight when a stranger came up and sat next to me and then followed me to my luggage. And he got very, very close… like creepy close to me. When we got to the flat I picked out my room and fell asleep. But when I woke up there was flowers on my nightstand. I like sprinted down stairs to ask my mom who they were from. She told me that they were from the stranger Justin. (I NO CREEPY RIGHT?!) And the worst part is she actually thought we were friends….. Hahaha no. Never. I have to go. Ill message you later okay? Love you!”

I hastily pressed send and took the last couple of sips of my drink. Noticing that there was significantly less people in the shop than before I stood up and proceeded to the exit to make my way back home.

When I reached the main entrance of the building, I could still see Zayn's car parked in the very same spot as I saw it this morning. "They're still here.” I groaned to myself. I couldn’t bear to see him. The last thing I wanted to do was be forced into the same room as him. I trudged to the elevators, mentally preparing myself of what agonizing pain was in store for me upstairs.

The old man asked me what floor, which I replied in a hushed tone "18th please." I was counting down every click of the elevator. Once we reached my floor the old man basically had to push me out in result of my feet not moving. I thanked him and slowly glided to the door of the flat.

As quietly as possible, I pushed my key into the lock. Slowly turning it to make the least amount of commotion as possible I skimmed through the small opening in the door and shut it so quietly you wouldn’t even know I was there. My parents were still talking to Zayn's father while he was twiddling with his thumbs.

Trying as hard as possible not to be seen, I pressed my back against the wall and slid to the stair case. Suddenly I noticed a small movement in the corner of my eye. I quickly glanced upwards to see Zayn’s eyes resting upon me. I thanked god he was the only one who lifted his head since my parents seemed to be deep I their conversation.

I gazed right back into his big brown eyes, begging him not to say anything so I could go unnoticed. Suddenly an evil grin appeared on his face. I nodded my head and mouthed “Please don’t. Please.” He winked at me with his right eye as if he was saying hurry up. As quietly as possible, I made my way to the stairs and tip toed higher. Right as my left foot hit the top step I heard a slight cough. I stood there frozen praying that I hadn’t been discovered. After what seemed like hours had passed I carried on heading towards my room.

Right as my hand gripped the door knob I heard my father’s voice call me down. Realizing I had been discovered I cursed to myself “you’ve got to be kidding me right now…” My irritated voice whispered, while stomping down the stairs.

My foot hit the flat ground and as I tried to put on a smile, although it was obvious I was faking. My eyes seemed to skim over everyone’s face until they hit Zayn’s glowing cheek bones. He seemed so pleased with himself. I held his stare for around 15 seconds with a slightly flirty smile trying to mask my frustration. I proceeded to take the empty seat on my mother’s left side, as my chair was pushed in by the gentle man sitting on my right. I looked up at my father with a loving smile and asked him, “did you call me down for something?”. My eyes peered at my father’s dark hazel eyes. When suddenly his lips began to part as the words “Actually yes. We have to tell you something.”
