Chapter 1

The Rain

Kanao's POV

"Kanao, let's go?" Kanae called me and I immediately walked to the front door to put on my shoes as well.

I sat on the ground and began tying the lace of my sneakers. I stood up and wore the purse that was hanged on the wall rack.

Kanae held my hand as we started walking around the village. We are going to a nearby convenience store since we ran out of snacks and some ingredients, so I wanted to come along and help.

The weather seemed gloomy today, hopefully it doesn't rain before we arrive back home.

We arrived at the convenience store, which seemed to change a bit. It was more minimalist, there were less decorations and no bright colors. A new owner, perhaps? It looks neat enough though.

Kanae and I seperated to get the goods we needed, I went over to the chips and biscuits section and there were too many choices. I couldn't decide which ones to get since all looked appetizing.

I stood and checked each bag of chips, reading its label and flavor.

The urge to get my coin and flip it was tempting, but I forgot that I left it back in my other bag.

"You can get whatever you want, Kanao!" I looked over to Kanae who was at pastries area, she always picked out the best and tasty ones.

I decided that I'll just bring the two bag of chips I'm currently holding in my hands. Now onto the biscuits.. Oreo seems good enough. Before I walked to Kanae and put the snacks I picked out onto the basket, I looked at it one more time hoping these tasted good.

"Thank you, Kanao. These look tasty!" Kanae got the snacks and put it in the basket. I nodded and smiled.

"You can wait outside, I'm just going to get a few things." She said.

"Okay" I replied.

I waited for Kanae outside the entrance door, it was colder here than inside, I clasped my hands for some warmth.

Now I realized that it's starting to drizzle and the breeze that gently rustled the leaves before was now growing stronger. I anticipated that a rain will surely come.

I opened my purse to take out a sweet candy I keep inside incase I felt bored. It's strawberry flavored, which I like a bit. It's sweet but not overly sugary.

As I chewed on the candy, I looked up the sky and gazed at the gentle rain. It slowly intensified but there were no signs of Kanae going out yet. There were some other customers inside anyway, she's probably lining up.

After a while of gazing at the sky, I heard the wind chime hanged on the door make a sound, so someone was about to go out. I turned my head at the side and smiled thinking Kanae was finished but it wasn't.

I stood dumbfoundedly when I realized I just smiled at a random stranger.

He exchanged a glance with me, he had soft burgundy eyes, and I found it interesting. He looked away as he watched the rain fall, but somehow my eyes didn't look away.

I examined his ruffled black and dark red hair, oh, he also has this scar on his forehead. It's rare to see someone with that kind of appearance.

The man who was beside me glanced at me once more and gave me a light smile, walking away with his plastic bag and umbrella.

Who was he?

The wind chime made a sound again, it was Kanae this time.

"Sorry it took me a while!" Kanae apologized. "The online payment couldn't process because of their connection."

"It's okay." I told her and took a plastic bag from her hands so she wouldn't struggle.

"We should get home quickly." She took an umbrella inside her bag and opened it so we could start walking in the rain.

There were minor floods on the road, but luckily it didn't take a long time to arrive back home.

As soon as I finished taking out the stuff we bought at the convenience store, I jumped on my bed and buried my face onto my pillow. The weather is cold and it's perfect for an afternoon nap.

I laid properly on my bed and hugged my stuffed toy that was on the side.

Looking up at the ceiling, my mind wandered to my new school that I'm transferring to in a few days. I wonder what lies ahead, knowing it's not going to be easy. I just hoped that the people there are nice.

With a deep sigh, I closed my eyes, feeling a mix of nerves and excitement about the journey ahead.
