he first herbology lesson of Aria's Hogwarts experience was very humbling indeed.
Having worked with some of the plants in the very overgrown garden of the orphanage, she had some experience in dealing with vegetation.
Just not magical vegetation.
Professor Sprout, a small plump lady and head of Hufflepuff house, had begun the class by placing each of the first years into pairs. Unfortunately for Aria, the kids did not have the choice of who they would be placed with.
James was paired with a short, blonde, Slytherin boy by the name of Evan Rosier, from what she had seen, Evan was quite protective of his friends, and in the short while that the first years had been in Hogwarts he had already had 3 detentions for punching anyone who annoyed him.
Sirius was paired with Evan's twin sister, Pandora. Aria had seen her around before and had taken notice of the airiness that seemed to float around her. She had also bore witness to a sort of episode the girl had had where Pandora's eyes turned white as she stared off into space.
It had been late at night and Aria was experiencing a familiar sleepless night, she had decided to take a walk. Turning one of the castle's many corners, she found a worried Evan gently caressing his sister's hand, attempting to coax her out of whatever it was.
Not wishing to impose on a clearly private moment between the two, Aria had turned and walked in the opposite direction.
Though the twins seemed nice enough, neither of the Gryffindor boys seemed particularly happy.
Remus, however, seemed thrilled to be paired with one of Aria's roommates, Lily Evans.
The eleven-year-old could admit, she hadn't made much of an effort to be friends with her roommates. It wasn't that she didn't like them, she just found herself almost completely unable to speak while around them. They already seemed so close and Aria didn't want to intrude on the already established bond.
Aria was placed next to a, rather nervous-looking blonde boy named Peter Pettigrew.
Every pair stood at a station around the round table in the middle of greenhouse two, some awkwardly attempting conversation with their partners, others laughing with their friends.
Though she understood that the purpose of the exercise was for the youngsters to make new friends and socialize with others, Aria was quite happy with her current 3 friends and wasn't really in the mood to make an effort.
Professor Sprout announced to the greenhouse that the task of the day was to re-pot a group of young mandrake plants, slimy, creepy baby plants that reminded Aria of matron's face on a good day.
The group of first years were warned of the danger of fainting and coma that often came with re-potting the plants and were given pink fluffy earmuffs to wear in order to protect their ears from the inevitable screeches.
Even beneath the questionable earmuffs, Aria could faintly hear James' cackles upon seeing Sirius wearing them.
In addition, she could also see Professor Sprout's mouth moving angrily as she scolded him.
