park jongseong :: the third perspective

JAY WAS NOT MEDIOCRE. He simply would not believe it. No one believed it, and right now, as he was standing in front of the microphone, an electric guitar swung around his shoulder, he definitely didn't feel mediocre. No, he was a star, showing off his incredible talent and skill.

The roar of music came to a halt. "Great job, all of you, now from the top again." This was the sentence that everyone in the room had been hearing for the past one hour. Jake dropped his drumsticks on the set with a thud.

"I can't do this anymore!" He complained. "I've been hearing the same song for like 3 days!" Everyone was frustrated, except Jay. "Okay, okay, let's take a break." Heeseung mediated.

Despite everyone leaving the room to get some fresh air, Jay remained right where he was. Silent, concentrated, and evaluating. He didn't care if the rest of the band were present or not.

This was his life. This band was his life. It was reassuring, something he could use to express himself, when words weren't enough. Though he didn't show it well, he was undoubtedly grateful towards his friends for making it happen.

Heeseung, Sunoo, Jake, Jungwon and him made the perfect team.

...

Jay heard the door open. He assumed it was the members. Instead, it was a girl hesitantly glancing around the room, before her eye caught his. Suddenly, all the nervousness seemed to subside.

"You play?" She asked, walking towards him, eyeing the shiny, red instrument in his hands. "No, it's properly set up and connected to the amp because I thought it looked cool." He deadpanned, not leaving a very friendly impression.

She ignored his attitude. "I'm guessing you're part of some sort of band." She observed the various other instruments around the room.

Jay was annoyed by her presence. "Who are you?" He asked, irritated. Just then, the others entered the room, confusedly staring at the girl.

"Oh, don't mind me, I'm just here to listen." She stepped back and sat on one of the chairs against the wall.

"You can't listen to the practice. Fuck off." Jay made the rule months ago, because other students, friends, admirers, all of them were too distracting. "Why? Are you all celebrities?" She challenged.

"Somewhat," An air of arrogance hung around his reply.

"Don't get ahead of yourself."

The rest watched the back and forth retorts, unsure of what to do.

After an intense moment of silence passed, the girl spoke up. "You know what? Let's make this fun. Let's both play, and then have your friends decide who did better. If I win, I get to join your band thing, and if you win, I'll leave you alone."

"That's ridiculous. It's an awful lot of drama, and of course they'll vote in my favor." Jay rolled his eyes.

"You sound like you're trying to reassure yourself. Are you scared?" She smirked.

Jay gritted his teeth. "Fine. May the best player win."
