TWENTY-SEVEN
Chapter 27: The Ghost Bride's Ultimate Sacrifice
As I struggled to maintain control, I saw a figure approaching me. It was the Ghost Bride, her ethereal form undulating in the dim light.
"You have unleashed the darkness," she said, her voice a mournful sigh. "Now you must pay the price."
I tried to speak, but my voice was still not my own. The dark energy had taken hold, and I was its puppet.
The Ghost Bride reached out and touched my forehead, and I felt a surge of power run through me. "I will take the darkness from you," she said. "But it will cost me my very existence."
I nodded, my mind racing with the implications. I knew that I had to find a way to stop the darkness, but I was willing to pay any price to save myself.
The Ghost Bride began to glow with an otherworldly light, and I felt the darkness being drawn out of me. It was a painful process, but I knew it was necessary.
As the darkness left my body, I felt myself returning to normal. I was no longer a vessel for the dark energy's malevolent intentions.
But as I looked at the Ghost Bride, I saw that she was beginning to fade away. "What's happening?" I asked, my voice shaking with fear.
"I have taken the darkness into myself," she said. "And now I must pay the price."
I watched in horror as the Ghost Bride's form began to dissipate, her existence being consumed by the very darkness she had saved me from.
"No!" I screamed, trying to reach out to her. But it was too late. She was gone, her ultimate sacrifice saving me from the brink of destruction.
