Crap crap crap crap is all I can think as I watch Max process the information. His mouth opens and closes a few times and I fidget with the collar of my button-up. The tension grows as both of us think.
Eventually, Freshman speaks. "Brad..."
"Bradley, please."
"Right. Bradley, I accept your apology of course, but I don't know if you earned my full trust. I also thank you for saving me, but it doesn't quite make up for almost killing everyone at the X Games and not letting my friends join your team. I hope you understand."
I let out a small sigh. I should've known that he wouldn't trust me after all I did. But I truly want to hang out with him, oddly enough, become friends or something mo...no, I can't think like that.
"Well Freshman, what can I do to make it up to you?"
He smiles, front teeth coming over his lip. "For starters, call me Max. Next, we should probably get to know each other a bit more. I want to understand why you did what you did and how you plan on fixing that."
Not my past, I can't tell him the true reason why I chose to cheat. That is past my comfort level. But...I could lie to him...
"Ooo, I know!" Max exclaims, cutting off my thoughts. "We could go to the skate park and skate around."
"Absolutely fucking not!" I yelp. "I just helped you from major frostbite and you want to go straight back out in the freezing weather! I won't allow it. You will stay here for at least one more day until I make sure you're fine. After all, you are technically my patient right now. Can you think of anything we can do in the house instead?"
"Fine. You got any video games?"
"No. The only frat brother I know who has any is Tank, and he is obviously not here and usually takes them with him."
"Well, what do you have?"
I think, there really is much to do around here. "Umm, do you like board games? We could play while watching movies to stimulate your tiny brain."
"Hey!" he pouts. "I guess we can, but I call playing Monopoly. I am an absolute beast at it."
I roll my eyes. "You're on."
