Broken places live in my heart
That may never mend again
Like a shattered fixture
Made of glass
Pieced together as one
The most transparent of glue
Cannot conceal the cracks
Laced with intricate memories
Of lovers lost
Places left behind
And things passed away.
No blood of Christ
Redeems the scars
Though healing may enter in
Questions of possibilities run
Of loving once more
One who has known no hurt
And has yet to learn distrust
The innocent naivete
That openly gives
Warmly welcomes
Into unbroken places
That are so delicately fragile.
If you offer me your heart
Know that mine comes without guarantee
Carry it carefully
One last break will destroy
Hopelessly beyond repair
Don't accept if it's too heavy
Don't hold if you're not sure how
If you think that you might break it
Hand it back to me
So I can slam it
Against the concrete.
Then I'll be the only one who killed me.
