"Sam, do you know how Mr. Santos got beat up?" The lawyer asked "My friends did it, but they were only trying to protect Jo." Sam said "oh so your friends are the one who brutalized my client?" The lawyer said "brutalized is a strong word I would say attempting to rape and murder a teenage girl who's never hurt a soul in her life, now that's brutalization." Sam said feeling his pink cheeks turn red with anger finished. How dare he compare his asshole client to Jo. He shouldn't even put them in the same sentence! The lawyer looked taken aback as if he didn't know Sam was that intelligent. "Sam I thought you said your friends were trying to help Jo, where did smashing his face in come about?- objection leading." Jo's lawyer interrupted "sustained watch it counselor 3 strikes and your out." The judge reminded him "yes your honor, Sam were you aware that Mr. Santos is a schizophrenic?" The lawyer asked "no, why would I be aware, I'd never met him prior to him trying to-thank you Mr. Pottorff." The lawyer cut off Sam "your honor I would like to present to the court exhibits A a copy of a letter diagnosing Mr. Santos as being an extreme schizophrenic at the age of 22, from 5 years ago. Exhibit B several copies of prescriptions over the last 5 years given only to schizophrenic patients and Exhibit C a signed affidavit from Mr. Santos saying and I quote "I felt better, the voices went away for a while, so I stopped taking my medications, that night I went out to get a pack of smokes when I saw her, the voices all of the sudden came back. She was so pretty, So innocent, I tried not to look, but then they told me to do those things to her, to kill her." Now does that sound like someone who belongs in jail? No, it sounds like someone who belongs in a mental facility." The lawyer finished. Jo felt nauseous hearing those words knowing who they came from.
