I'd decided I didn't want to be surrounded by boring 'important' people that Sean and Anne had to talk to. Too many fake smiles, fake laughs, and formal conversations would make me physically sick. Instead, after that weird encounter with Hathaway, I took it to myself to roam around her reception.
It smelled good, and I would be lying if I said she didn't have good taste. The floor was an expensive marble, and the lighting was soft yet bold.
After walking around for a few minutes, I see a room hidden from everything else. The door was glass, so It wasn't hard to spot some expensive, sleek wooden furniture with an ashtray. There was no sign anywhere saying I shouldn't go in, but those signs never stopped me from doing anything I wanted. So I walked in.
It smelled different here - like weed and something sweet. There was a pool table and a trolley with shots of something, probably alcohol. I smirked quietly to myself. Now why would the 'I can't believe she's smoking cigarettes in your office!' girl have her own smoking area?
I assumed this was where people would spend their time during their breaks, as there were at least five people in Anne's formal uniform doing their thing. Two were playing nine ball and I decided to ask if I could join. I have some time to waste.
I got one cue stick and asked for some chalk, which they gave me, and put some on it while I watched them prepare the game. They were taking longer than expected as I think they lost the nine ball, so I leaned onto the table and took out a cigarette, but after some fishing, I realised that I'd lost my lighter as well. Fuck, that lighter was expensive.
"You need some help, sweetheart?" One of the guys asks. I look at him with a dead stare and a cig in my mouth. Was this the people Anne chose to hire? Arrogant dudes, who know nothing and benefit from the business's good insurance? He looked silly trying to flirt with me, but I hadn't had a smoke in a while, so I couldn't say no.
"Yeah. Thanks." I say as I lean forward a bit to meet his lighter. Finally, they were done setting up and pushed me to go first. God, with that look they were giving me, I knew they assumed I was shit just because I was a girl.
With a swift move, I hit the balls and they all spread throughout, while two of the nine fell into a pocket. I smirk, looking for ball one while taking a hit out of my cigarette. The two guys just stare as I get ball one in, unsurprisingly, and apply some more chalk onto the cue stick.
Ball two was harder as a lot of the other balls prevented me from having a comfortable angle so I took my right arm out of my hoodie, exposing my shirt which tightly held onto my body. Luckily, that helped and I was able to get ball two into a pocket with an impressive angle.
Before I knew it, I had only stopped when I finally missed ball six, and one of the guys could finally have a turn. The guy who tried to flirt with me was next, and he confidently took the cue stick and hit the ball six into a pocket. His ugly smile widened as he went for ball seven. He got humbled as he missed it by a mile.
His friend was next and he was able to get the ball seven in as it was an easy shot. Unfortunately, he missed the eight so It was my turn and obviously, I got the last two in, winning the game. They sighed dumbly as they watched me take a hit, "Want to play another game?"
Four wins and zero losses later, I get bored and give myself a couple of shots. Thank god that this is all free. Don't worry, I won't get drunk, maybe a little tipsy; I have a high tolerance. Though I think I'm going to complain to Hathaway about her workers and how they're pretty shit at what they do, and she needs to fix the AC in this room, it's hot.
