Chapter Eight
How To Get The Girl, A Book By Steve Harrington

NEITHER CAMILA NOR THEODORA LIKED THE IDEA OF HANDLING RAW MEAT OR GASOLINE. They could let the dudes handle that. It was amusing watching the king of Hawkins High and a geeky little tween get their hands dirty, despite the current problems, but when The Babysitter's Club had arrived practically in the middle of nowhere to get to business, any enthusiasm soon began to dissipate.

Finally, one of Dustin's friends had decided to radio him back - after how long exactly?

"Well, while you were having sister problems, Dart grew again, he escaped, and I'm pretty sure he's a baby Demogorgon," the curly-haired boy explained as he paced around Steve's car.

Hands on hips, Theodora watched as Steve pulled the buckets of meat from his boot. He'd probably need to clean that later if he didn't want questioning about the back of his car reeking of old sausages.

"The what-again?" She grunted, sending a quizzical stare Dustin's way as he spun around to continue his route of pacing.

"The Demogorgon," Steve repeated as he tried stuffing his bat into a rucksack he'd packed.

"That doesn't help me understand."

From beside Theodora, Camila chuckled, zipping up her hoodie half-way and crossing her arms over her chest. "It's a character from that board game, isn't it? How would Dart turn into a game character?"

Once he'd partly fitted his weapon into his bag, the end of it sticking out, Steve let out a sigh and glanced up at Camila, unsure at first. He sat down on the edge of the open boot, slouching slightly to avoid bumping his head.

"I guess we haven't had time to really get you in the know," he began, tone awkward and uncertain. "But you know how we said that this wasn't the first time something like this has happened in Hawkins?"

Both girls nodded, glancing over at each other in suspicion.

"Last year, around this time, I guess, I went round Jonathan Byers' house to go apologise to him for... Well, I think you guys know what for."

At this, Theodora let out an exaggerated laugh. "Yeah, you were a dick and he rocked your shit! It was crazy."

But Camila nudged Theo in the rib, indicating her to stop talking, and she did so, just about.

"Yeah, well, Nancy was round, which I thought was super weird, because it's my girlfriend and Jonathan Byers. Well, not girlfriend, but..." Steve and Camila met eyes for barely a moment, and Camila was beginning to think she wanted out. All because she'd stupidly kissed Steve Harrington.

"Anyways," he continued, averting his eyes, and focusing out on the tree line instead. "The lights began to blink, and they told me that meant something was there. And they'd dragged me into it so quick, I was in your place back then, as in I had no idea what was happening. But this thing came out of the ceiling; super tall, big head that opens up. That's what they all call the Demogorgon."

The new information hitting her like a juggernaut, all Camila could do was gape and furrow her eyebrows. "I would say that's impossible, but we've just seen a baby one of those, so I'm surprised to say I believe it."
