Braid

A sniffle could be heard across the living room of Wyndemere as the front door slammed. Before Emily could ask many questions, little eleven year old Lulu Spencer threw herself onto the couch.

"Lulu, what's wrong? How did you get here?" Emily asked in alarm, Nikolas had been in bed all day.

"Nobody will braid my hair, it isn't fair. At school all of the girls have their mom's, why can't I have mine? My hair deserves to be braided too! I just look stupid when I try to do it myself, it's just not fair." Lulu sniffled, beside herself. Emily instantly understood why Lulu was upset, she missed her mother. Emily came over to sit on the couch beside the younger girl, smoothing her hair back.

"You know, sometimes I miss my mother too. My birth mother...she died when I was twelve years old. Lucky for me, mom and the Quartermaines loved me as their own...well, most of them anyway. That doesn't mean that I don't miss her though, it's okay to miss your mom. I know this isn't what you want to hear but, your mom will eventually wake up. Laura will come back to you, you just have to be patient. I can't imagine how hard this is on you, you're still so young." Emily sighed, taking Lulu's hand in hers.

"I know, that's what everyone says. I just wish it was...now." Lulu frowned.

"I know you do and that's okay. What your feeling is natural. As far as braiding your hair goes, that's what I'm here for." Emily smirked, patting her shoulder and she went to go grab some hair ties.

"Are you sure? I know you're busy." Lulu peeked up at Emily.

"Of course I'm sure, you're my sister in law which makes you my sister. I would do anything to make you happy, Lulu." Emily sat down behind her, they say in a comfortable silence as Emily worked Lulu's blonde hair into a braid. Nikolas stumbled down the stairs in a flu like trance a few moments later, spotting two of his favorite girls sitting on the couch, laughing at whatever silly movie Emily had put on. Nikolas would put in a call to Lucky to make sure nobody was searching for Lulu but, all was right in his world. For once.
