Keep in mind that my characters all have genuine human flaws, as I made them more psychologically complex than just "good character" and "bad character." All of them have a little good and a little bad, so please don't write comments or hate on the people in the story because they possess imperfections and bad traits.
Of course, Tom Riddle will obviously be more predominantly bad, and throughout the book he'll display toxic, unhealthy behaviour that should not be romanticized or wanted in any way.

There are different customs in the pureblood world because I was aiming to make it aristocratic and separated, drawing inspiration from the 1800s. Each noble house has a snake that represents them (for example, the Gaunt family snake is a black mamba) and to wear another house's snake is considered treason, unless you're married to them.
In this AU that I created, each noble pureblood house has also been blessed with the coils and threads of the old magic from, in the "pureblood lore", wild half witch half goddesses who practiced the most forbidden of all dark, old magics long forgotten: lunar magic. Lunar magic is forbidden now by the Ministry of Magic, and even though they had a long span of life owing to their wonders and magics, the witch goddesses perished two hundred and something years ago (there are rumours that they were burned during the horrible Salem witch trials, which are also not to be romanticized in any way).
Each gift grows stronger within certain allotted lunar phases and pulls of the stars. These gifts may or may not have diminished as it was passed down the line of heritage. For example, the Carrows, the pureblood house of my OC, were blessed with being able to inflict pain and harm on people with just a touch, a thought, a whisper, or a kiss, but now for most of their house, the gift has dampened down into them being dangerously skilled in the art of poisoning.
The old magic is something Tom Riddle wants in this story, so keep that in mind when you're confused about how he's acting or why he's doing some things.
Old magic is also present in not just the pureblood houses, but also a small thread-wrapped wisp of a shard was sewn into the likes of vampires, elves, and demons (this includes, part of my AU, forest demons, death demons, and sky demons), which have all become near extinct.
In this AU, spiritual ley lines, mystical, invisible lines of magical energy, have been woven into the places of the earth, originally meant to strengthen the gift of all wizards but now either heavily and unfairly controlled by the Ministry of Magic, or seized by a noble pureblood house and bent into obedience so that no one else may use it.
These ley lines strengthen magic and are heavily coveted. The pureblood houses who possess a ley line, which is usually sleeping and dreaming dormant on the grounds its owner's ancestral manor, will have small, arcane clan tattoos that they carve into the fingers of their family. This ensures that they can access the magical energy buried within the sleeping earth, without any side effects that would come to a witch or wizard without the proper clan tattoos to harness the magic.
(I feel like I put way too much lore into this story but anyways...)
