35: No More Losses

Kai can't remember the last time he was this happy.

He's always had quite the temper. He's moody, rough around the edges, and quick to lose his patience. For the longest time, the only way he could feel good about himself was by putting others down. By using his strength to scare people into subservience in order to get what he wanted. By tormenting those around him in order to distract from his own insecurity.

Things are different now, though. Now, he actually has something to look forward to. He's motivated by something other than bitterness and self-loathing, and when he gets out of bed every day, he has a reason to keep trying.

As clichéd as it may sound, he's in love.

You're on his mind, constantly. Admittedly, it's a pretty big distraction, but it doesn't bother him. Aside from his late mother, there's no one else that he's ever cared about this much. And even then, what he feels for you is obviously different from platonic, familial love. He's never fallen for someone before. Honestly, he never even imagined himself wanting an actual relationship. He was dead set on being one of those fuckboys for the rest of his life. Just the thought of opening up to someone made him feel sick to his stomach, and not only that-it made him feel weak.

However, Kai has since realized that being weak is inevitable. Whether someone is a human or a vampire, it makes no difference. Everyone has moments when they lose sense of themselves. Everyone says and does things that they later regret. For the longest time, he tried to cling to the notion that he was superior because he was born a vampire, but he's done with that bullshit. Both of his parents died of sickness. They were vampires, and yet, they met their ends far earlier than most. The fact is that no one in this world is invincible, and everyone is destined to die, at some point or another.

So, from now on, he's going to make the most of his life.

Kai is sitting through a lecture right now, and even though the topic is enough to bore him to tears, he just can't seem to stop smiling. This of course means that his classmates keep staring at him in bewilderment. They're not used to seeing him look so happy. It's also a given that everyone is terrified of him, since he's a vampire and the Police Commissioner's son. They know he has a track record of getting away with all kinds of heinous shit. Since the start of the school year, handfuls of students have dropped the classes they share with him. And the ones that stuck around are likely mustering up all their willpower not to do the same.

It's obvious that people are staring at him. Kai knows it all too well. They could certainly afford to be more subtle, but whatever. He could care less what they think. He's never going to do anything to them, anyway. He promised you he was going to be a better person, and no matter how others may perceive him, he's a man of his word.

Kai always used to slack during class and get by with the bare minimum, just as long as it was enough to earn him a degree, but he's motivated to try harder now. You're always working yourself to the bone. You put in more effort than any person he's ever known. Now that he's accepted his feelings, you've become a source of inspiration to him. He's going to become a good student, a good person, and maybe one day-a good boyfriend.

Still.

It's really hard to focus after the intimate night he just spent with you.

Kai spends the better portion of his classes staring off into the distance with a dreamy look in his eyes, cheeks distinctly flushed red. His grin is impossible to contain, and every so often, he even chuckles inwardly.

Needless to say, the students sharing the lecture hall with him can't get out of there any faster.

Later that same day, Kai is back at home, doing his best to study and get some of his homework done. Even now, thoughts of your beautiful, naked form still play in his mind, on a seemingly endless loop. On several instances, he has to take a quick break to, er, relieve himself before being able to focus on studying again.
