Haven Brooke Miller
A deafening clap of thunder roared in the sky, along with heavy rain beating against the window. Continuous rumbles floated throughout the air, some more harsh than others.
In a panic, Haven jumped out of her sleep at the sound with her heart drumming in her chest. She breathed heavily, eyes roaming around in the darkness of her bedroom.
Letting out a sigh, she used the palm of her hand to wipe the dripping sweat from her forehead and underneath her neck. Leaning over, the woman grabbed her iPhone 14 and pressed the button on the side to turn it on.
Judging by how hot it was in the apartment and the fact that she could no longer see the light from the hall coming through the crack of her door, Haven figured the power had went out.
The time displayed on the screen read 3:09 am. Unfortunately her battery was only on fifteen percent, thanks to her forgetting to put it on the charger before she turned in for the night.
After working an eight hour shift, Haven arrived home around ten last night. She came in and showered, ate a light dinner and hopped straight into bed. Not only was her body tired, but she was mentally drained as well.
Her work environment had become toxic, and she no longer desired to be there.
She was beyond grateful to have a job interview coming up next week for an oral X-Ray tech at a dental office, because being a server at Red Lobster wasn't cutting it anymore.
Plus, due to so many locations closing, she didn't know if the one she worked at would be next.
Haven was hired at the establishment back when she was twenty years old, and she'd just recently turned twenty four. It was definitely time for her to move on to something else, especially since she had successfully completed an accredited radiology program and earned her certification.
With the way the economy was nowadays, it was becoming harder to keep up financially. Therefore, she needed more income coming into her household. Thank the Lord it was just her and she didn't have any kids. Hell, she couldn't even afford a dog right now.
Checking the weather app, she groaned as soon as the words severe thunderstorm and tornado warning came into view. By the looks of it, the rain wouldn't be slacking up until sometime in the late afternoon.
She hoped and prayed to God that her manager didn't expect her to come into work, because if so, he was out of his rabbit ass mind.
In the words of the famous TikTok sound: 'Get somebody else to do it.'
Haven hated when the weather was bad, as it was currently. It made her anxious and she easily got overstimulated.
